PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Viktor Krum (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Saracen Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Krum comes to the cage accompanied by Viktor Krum will rock you. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Viktor Krum!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Saracen Smith!
The judges for this bout are Ryoma Takatsuka, Paul Gruel and Roger Salmon.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Smith shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Krum keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Smith not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Krum is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Smith's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Smith's back!
Smith is trying to get back to his feet but Krum has full control of the position and if anything, Smith has just worked his way into a worse spot.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Krum has good solid back control here.
Smith is in bad spot here.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Smith has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Krum struggling to keep hold of the position.

You can see the frustration on Smith's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.
Krum is looking cool and calm here, just waiting for a good opportunity to attack and finish the fight from this dominant position.
Krum is looking to control Smith but Smith is wriggling around and keeping busy.
Smith is defending well here and trying to improve his position.

Smith is trying to shake Krum off. He's managed it and has hopped back to his feet! Krum won't be happy about giving up the dominant position.

Smith forces Krum back against the cage and clinches.

Krum gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Smith.
Krum can't find room to land a body shot as Smith controls the action.
A nice right hand lands inside from Krum.
Smith misses with the head strike.
Smith lands a right hand that snaps the head of Krum backwards.

Smith turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Smith manages to end up in side control.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Smith tries for a kimura but Krum is defending well.
Smith misses with the ground and pound.
Krum is looking for a sweep.
Krum is not content to let Smith control the position.

Smith working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Krum is not in a great position here, taking some shots.
Krum is trying to improve his position.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Smith tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Smith has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Krum is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Smith's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Smith throwing shots but Krum is blocking nicely.
Krum has hold of Smith's hands but Smith slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Smith not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Krum wants to improve his position but Smith is controlling well.
Smith trying to mount his opponent but Krum defends it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Saracen Smith dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Smith shoots in for a takedown but Krum shows good takedown defense.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Krum lands with a short shot to the head.
Smith lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Krum backwards.
Krum lands a nice looking hook to the body, against the cage.
A head punch on the inside from Krum fails to land.
Smith tries for a takedown but Krum manages to get underhooks.
Both fighters working to control the clinch.
Smith has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Krum lands with a right to the head.
Krum misses with a body punch.
Smith blocks an uppercut.
Krum blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Krum lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Smith backwards.


Smith is rocked!
Krum throws a head punch that misses.
Smith has Krum pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Krum manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Viktor Krum has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Saracen Smith.

Smith gets a trip takedown into half guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Krum is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Smith pulls his head out easily.
Smith thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Krum's head.
Smith is trying to control. Krum wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Smith works his foot free and advances to mount.
Krum is wriggling around trying to escape.

Krum is working hard here to advance position.

Smith jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Krum is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Krum and Smith has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

Smith tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Krum avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Smith.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Smith lands a decent elbow from side control.
Krum sneaks back into half guard.

Smith is working for a submission of some sort.
Smith is keen to just control but Krum is a slippery customer.
Smith wants to pass to mount but Krum is defending the position.
Smith perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Krum is trying to get back to full guard.
Smith throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Smith with the ground and pound but Krum uses the opportunity to regain guard.

Smith drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Krum dives on top into guard.

Smith is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Smith tries to land a sweep but no joy.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Saracen Smith will probably get the nod - 10:9.
That's time! Krum's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Krum misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
A solid leg kick lands there for Krum.
Krum is looking to slow Smith down with leg kicks.
Saracen Smith is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Smith uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Krum.
Krum will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Smith with the counter takedown but Krum avoids it easily.
Krum connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Smith momentarily.
Smith shoots for a double leg takedown but Krum sprawls well. He's pushed Smith's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Krum is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Smith.
Krum lands a glancing blow to the side of Smith's head.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Smith doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Krum counters by clinching up.
Smith drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Krum gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Viktor Krum has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Saracen Smith.
Krum lands with a short head shot on the inside.
Smith is still on wobbly legs! Can Krum finish him?

Krum pushes Smith back against the cage and unloads with a body punch.
A right hand to the body from Krum.
Smith takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Smith tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
Krum lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.
A short right hand to the side of the head by Krum.
Krum wants to stall.
Krum lands with a left to the head.
Krum working aggressively here.
Krum swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Krum lands an uppercut in the clinch that drops Smith to his knees! Krum keeps firing more shots against his stricken opponent and the referee jumps in to save him!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:29 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Viktor Krum!
Viktor Krum was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed.
