Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Marion Stein (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Darren Cortes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Marion Stein!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Darren Cortes!
The judges for this bout are Felipe Paraventi, Emerson Jorge and Thiago Cunha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Stein throws a sloppy head kick and Cortes moves out of range easily.
Stein displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Cortes throws out the jab.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Stein enables Cortes to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Stein manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Stein is looking to stand up but Cortes isn't so interested in that idea.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Cortes slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Cortes slows the pace down.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Cortes looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Stein is trying to buck Cortes off.
Stein knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Cortes on the ground.

Stein throws his opponent off and manages to get back to his feet! Nicely done!
Darren Cortes seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Stein gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Cortes to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Stein is looking to stand up but Cortes isn't so interested in that idea.
Stein trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.
Stein keeping moving, preventing Cortes from controlling successfully.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Cortes wants to stand but Stein is controlling his posture from full guard.
Cortes wants to control from the top but Stein keeps moving.
Stein wants to stand up but Cortes is controlling him.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Cortes throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Stein works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Cortes feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Stein keeping moving, preventing Cortes from controlling successfully.
Cortes postures up.
Cortes wants to control from the top but Stein keeps moving.
Stein wants to stand and escape but Cortes is having none of it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Stein is breathing heavily.
Cortes trying to control the position from guard on top but Stein is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Cortes tries to score with a low kick but Stein moves his leg out of the way.

Cortes gets a takedown into half guard.
Stein pushes Cortes off looking to stand but Cortes dives back in and keeps control.
Cortes drops an elbow to the side of Stein's head.
Cortes is trying to control. Stein wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Stein looks like he's trying to stand up.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Cortes controlling the action here.
Cortes passes to side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Darren Cortes dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Cortes darts in and clinches Stein up against the cage.

Stein ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Stein no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Cortes wants to stand but Stein has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Stein is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Stein wants to stand and escape but Cortes is having none of it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Cortes trying to control but Stein is working from the bottom.
Cortes slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Cortes has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Cortes trying to control the action but Stein is working from the bottom.
Stein pushes Cortes away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Cortes gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
Cortes moves into full mount!
Cortes looking to control but Stein is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Stein trying desperately to get to his feet.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Stein has given up his back, trying to stand up. Not clever.

Cortes sinks in the hooks and is looking for the choke. He's got it! Stein taps out!
