PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Seto Takiama (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Minoru Minami (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Minami's choice of entrance music: No Easy Way Out. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Seto Takiama!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Minoru Minami!
The judges for this bout are Tatsuya Matsuyama, Yasuomi Hirokawa and Hirohito Nitta.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Minami misses with the combination.
Takiama shoots for a double leg takedown but Minami sprawls well. He's pushed Takiama's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Takiama.

Minami clinches up against the cage.

Minami gets a nice trip takedown into half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Still in half guard, Minami seems content to control.
Takiama slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Minami really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Takiama. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Minami tries to stand but Takiama is controlling from the bottom.

Minami is still trying to improve position.
Takiama controls Minami momentarily but Minami frees himself.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Minami dives in for a single leg takedown but Takiama sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Takiama appears to be looking for a counter takedown.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Takiama keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Takiama is looking to clinch but Minami is avoiding it.
Takiama misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Seto Takiama. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Minami closes the distance and pushes Takiama back into the cage.
Takiama is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Minami pulls him back up using the underhooks.
The pace really dropping off here, momentarily.

Minami pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Takiama feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Minami wants to sweep but no luck.

Takiama decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Minami tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Takiama defends well and Minami ends up having to push Takiama into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Minami gets caught napping as Takiama dives in and scores a takedown. Minami manages to retain guard.
Takiama wants to pass the guard but Minami is keeping the position.
Takiama not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Minami bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Takiama's guard.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Takiama bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Minami's guard.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Minoru Minami will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Takiama tries to keep at a distance but Minami has taken the fight into the clinch.

Minami turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
Takiama tries to improve position but can't.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Takiama prevents Minami from moving into mount.
Minami wants to control but Takiama is keeping him busy.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Takiama is looking to reverse the position.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Takiama gets tackled into the cage by Minami. Minami maintains the clinch.

Minami pulls guard.
Minami tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Takiama trying to control the position from guard on top but Minami is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Takiama is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Minami is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Minami has escaped and now he's on top!


That's two minutes gone in the round.
Minami sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Takiama's guard.
Takiama wants to get back to full guard.
Takiama is trying to maintain the position but Minami is very close to passing his half guard.
Takiama moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Minami wants to stand but Takiama has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Minami throws a sloppy strike and Takiama has hooked up an armbar on the loose arm! He's turned and extended fully! Minami is forced to tap! Great BJJ from Takiama!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:39 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Seto Takiama!
