Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Eusebio Peterson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Philip Carpenter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Eusebio Peterson has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Eusebio Peterson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Philip Carpenter!
The judges for this bout are Anthony Taglia, Bruno Lombardi and John Kavanagh.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Carpenter leaves Peterson with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Carpenter closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Carpenter lands in his opponent's guard.

Peterson had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Carpenter defends it easily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Carpenter wants to control from the top but Peterson keeps moving.
Carpenter throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Peterson works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

and Peterson holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

Peterson has Carpenter pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Peterson pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Carpenter tumbling to the mat - Peterson dives into Carpenter's guard.
Carpenter throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.

Peterson got a little sloppy there for a moment and Carpenter has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Peterson has managed to get both his arms back between Carpenter's legs - danger averted.
Carpenter is trying to keep Peterson in close.

Peterson decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Peterson darts in and clinches Carpenter up against the cage.

Peterson jumps guard but Carpenter turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.

Carpenter is trying to push Peterson away but Peterson has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Carpenter throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Peterson blocks it with crossed arms.

Carpenter has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Peterson uses from the top position.

Carpenter is working an open guard so Peterson takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Carpenter has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Peterson is trying hard to land a takedown here. Carpenter sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Carpenter throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Peterson tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Carpenter is in Peterson's guard.

Peterson shoots in looking for a takedown. Carpenter tries to sprawl out of it but Peterson keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Carpenter manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

and Peterson counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.

Carpenter shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Carpenter was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Carpenter decides to stand back up. Carpenter steps back and let's Peterson get back to his feet.
Carpenter misses with the combination.

Carpenter scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Carpenter stands up from half guard.
Carpenter is breathing heavily.

Carpenter closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Carpenter lands in his opponent's guard.

Peterson has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Carpenter can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Carpenter is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Peterson is trying to control the position but Carpenter postures up.

Peterson really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Peterson is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Philip Carpenter showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Peterson circles away from the clinch attempt.
It looked like Peterson wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
Peterson takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.

Carpenter drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Carpenter seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Peterson might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Carpenter wants to control from the top but Peterson keeps moving.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Carpenter lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Peterson can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Carpenter controls the pace.
Carpenter has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Peterson is looking to stand up but Carpenter isn't so interested in that idea.

Peterson has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Carpenter is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Peterson.

Peterson shoots in looking for a takedown. Carpenter tries to sprawl out of it but Peterson keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Carpenter manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Carpenter throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Peterson was covering up waiting for the punch and Carpenter finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Peterson escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Carpenter gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Philip Carpenter comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Carpenter has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
