The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bernard shoots for a takedown but Michaels saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Michaels tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Bernard was well out of range. Poor timing from Michaels.

Michaels decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Michaels not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Michaels working over Bernard with some ground and pound. Bernard looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Michaels throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

Michaels is looking to take a break and control but Bernard is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Michaels thows a huge punch but Bernard dodges it nicely.

Michaels stops Bernard from getting back to his feet.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Bernard tries to roll over but Michaels keeps him under control.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Michaels throws a right and a left that both miss.
Michaels moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.

Bernard is rocked!

It looks like Renato Bernard has been cut.
Michaels throws a powerful right kick. Bernard tried to block low but the kick was high! Bernard was taken right off of his feet! Michaels jumps in to finish the job and the ref tackles him! The fight is over!
