PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between John Hoop (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Travis Davies (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 4 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, John Hoop!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Travis Davies!
The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, George Francis and Gwen Towbar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hoop throws a nice head kick!
Davies fails with an attempt to clinch.
We've been told by Hoop's head coaches at Silverback MMA Academy (Elite + Sauna & 160VM) that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Hoop scores with a shot to the body.
Hoop lands a nice hook to Davies's body. Davies takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
Hoop throws a one two combo.
Davies throws an overhand right that lands on Hoop's shoulder, as Hoop tries to avoid the shot.
Davies tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Hoop scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.
Hoop cracks a nice hook into Davies's ribs.
Hoop throws out a powerful jab.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Davies tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Hoop paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Hoop misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Davies.
Davies ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Hoop moves away.
Davies misses with a double jab.
Davies tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Nice straight punches there by Hoop. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Hoop.
Davies takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Davies throws a right hand that Hoop ducks under and follows up with a left that Hoop also avoids with ease.
A decent looking body kick lands there for Hoop.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Hoop will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
Davies takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Davies looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Hoop connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Davies momentarily.

Davies bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Hoop is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Davies has just dragged him back down to the mat.
Hoop on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Hoop tries to get out of the position.
Hoop is not in a great position here, taking some shots.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Davies prevents Hoop from escaping the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Davies throws the left hand but Hoop avoids the punch easily.
Hoop throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Davies's head.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Davies moves out of range as Hoop throws a body kick.
Hoop goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
Davies takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Hoop ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Davies moves away.
Davies doesn't manage to clinch there - Hoop circles away.
Davies shoots in looking for a takedown. Hoop tries to sprawl out of it but Davies keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Hoop manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Good shot there by Hoop.
Davies misses with a few strikes there.
Jab from Hoop.
Davies walks into a jab.
Davies closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Davies tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Hoop defends well and Davies ends up having to push Hoop into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
John Hoop has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Travis Davies.
Hoop scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
Davies throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Hoop.
A counter left hand to the body from Hoop misses its target.
Davies lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Hoop circles away quickly and effectively.
Hoop lands an overhand right.
John Hoop seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Davies's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Hoop connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Davies scrambles back to his feet.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Davies is trying hard to land a takedown here. Hoop sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Davies misses with the combination.
Davies looks winded!
Hoop sizes up Davies with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
Hoop takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Hoop scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Davies gets cracked there but stands up to it.


Davies is rocked!
Davies tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Hoop swivels and escapes.
John Hoop is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Hoop swats away the attempt to clinch by Davies.
Hoop throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Davies wants to clinch.
Hoop swung with a counter punch to the body but it didn't connect.
Hoop lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
Davies misses with a double jab.
Hoop thinks about countering with a head kick.
Hoop lands a nice shot that snaps Davies's head back.
Davies fails with a takedown attempt.
The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Davies takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Hoop circles away from the clinch attempt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

John Hoop dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


The fight stays on the outside here - Davies looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky.

Davies misses with a few strikes there.

Nice takedown defense from Hoop. No joy for Davies on that attempt.
Davies is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Hoop jabs Davies to the body, keeping him at a distance.
Hoop tests Davies's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Hoop keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
Davies is still on wobbly legs! Can Hoop finish him?
Davies has a takedown stuffed.
Davies seems to have recovered his senses.
John Hoop has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Travis Davies.
Davies is breathing heavily.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Hoop lands a left and a right that send Davies crashing to the mat, dazed. Hoop thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!

Davies takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Hoop walks forward and throws a big overhand right! Davies drops to the floor like a sack of potatoes! Hoop swarms on him with more punches until the referee wrestles him away from Davies's unconscious body! Wow, that was brutal!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:09 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). John Hoop!
A very excited looking John Hoop made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
