PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Diego Diaz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alexsandr Slemenko (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Slemenko is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Небо Славян. This should be a great matchup!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Diego Diaz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 7 - 1, fighting out of Amsterdam, Alexsandr Slemenko!
The judges for this bout are Wagner Zegers, Aafke Stam and Daniel Blasius.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Diaz clinches with his opponent.
Slemenko tries to stall but Diaz uses the opportunity to gain a better position.
Diaz wants to stall.

Slemenko escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Diaz tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Slemenko swivels and escapes.
Slemenko steps in looking to clinch after the strikes miss from Diaz.
Diaz shoots for a double leg takedown but Slemenko sprawls well. He's pushed Diaz's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Slemenko tries to counter with a clinch but Diaz shakes him off and moves away.
Diaz will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Slemenko steps in looking to clinch after the strikes miss from Diaz.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Diego Diaz. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Slemenko tries to keep at a distance but Diaz has taken the fight into the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Diaz lands a left hand.
Slemenko jumps guard but Diaz turns him against the ropes and keeps the fight standing.

Slemenko pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Slemenko avoids a punch combination nicely.
Slemenko tries to counter by closing the distance.
Diaz scores with a shot to the body.
Slemenko stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Slemenko wants it to stay on the feet.
Diaz shoots in for a double leg but Slemenko sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Diaz looks to clinch

and Slemenko counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Diaz wants to control but Slemenko is keeping busy.
Diaz trying to keep hold of his opponent's head but Slemenko manages to pass to mount!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Diaz wants to hold on but Slemenko pushes him away.
Diaz slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
Diaz gets back to full guard.
Diaz is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Diaz perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Slemenko really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Diaz. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Diaz is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!

Slemenko wants to try and get back to his feet.
Diaz looking to control but Slemenko is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Diaz throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Slemenko because Diaz loaded up on that one.
Diaz throwing strikes but Slemenko uses the opportunity to regain half guard.

Diaz is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Diaz wants to lay and pray for a moment but Slemenko keeps working.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Diaz is controlling the pace.
Slemenko has hold of Diaz's hands but Diaz slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Diaz trying to mount his opponent but Slemenko defends it.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Diaz trying to control the action but Slemenko is working from the bottom.
We've been hearing that Diaz has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.
Diaz looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Slemenko with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Diego Diaz dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Slemenko defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Diaz.
The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky.
Diaz lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.

Diaz drives through with a takedown into guard.
Diaz postures up in Slemenko's guard and throws a big left but Slemenko blocks it.
Diaz working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
Diaz working some strikes from top position.
Diaz trying to control but Slemenko is working from the bottom.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Diaz throwing strikes but missing.
Diego Diaz overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Slemenko keeping moving, preventing Diaz from controlling successfully.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Diaz throws a strike but Slemenko rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Diaz throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.

Diaz has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Slemenko should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Diaz has tightened it up now! Slemenko should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:47 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Diego Diaz!
