PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Gottlieb Hiebknecht (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jason Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Gottlieb Hiebknecht!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Jason Smith!
The judges for this bout are Winston Alpacca, David Hoff and Peter Branson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Decent striking displayed by Hiebknecht there.
Smith misses with a double jab.
Hiebknecht swung with a counter punch to the body but it didn't connect.
Smith throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Hiebknecht counters with a nice body shot.
Hiebknecht misses with a double jab.
It seemed like Smith was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
Hiebknecht uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Smith.
Hiebknecht looks to land a left hand but Smith moved out of range nicely.

Smith fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Hiebknecht to the ground. Smith is now in Hiebknecht's guard.

Smith postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Hiebknecht is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Smith, into his guard.

Hiebknecht seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Smith throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Hiebknecht escapes and throws Smith's legs to the side, diving into side control!
Smith tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Hiebknecht tries to move to mount but Smith blocks the move with his legs.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Smith manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Smith is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Hiebknecht sees it coming and defends easily.
Hiebknecht is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Smith's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Smith's back!
Hiebknecht knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Smith on the ground.

As Hiebknecht backs off Smith throws a huge counter combo but Hiebknecht manages to avoid it all.

Smith shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Hiebknecht napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Smith is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Hiebknecht has managed to free his arm - good work.

Jason Smith has got the better of the ground game so far.

Smith is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Hiebknecht doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Smith.
Hiebknecht definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Smith is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Hiebknecht to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Hiebknecht shrugs it off.

Smith jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Hiebknecht manages to avoid the submission attempt.
Hiebknecht tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Smith wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Smith thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Smith has hold of Hiebknecht's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Hiebknecht seems comfortable defending it but Smith has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Hiebknecht is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Hiebknecht is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Smith couldn't care less - he's delighted!
