The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Boykin fails with a takedown attempt.
Kovalenko just misses with a punch to the body.
Boykin avoids the head kick by Kovalenko.
Boykin shoots in and drives through. Kovalenko sprawls well.
Boykin looks to land a left hand but Kovalenko moved out of range nicely.
Boykin on the wrong end of a nice hook.
Boykin takes a push kick to the midsection and stumbles backwards.
Kovalenko uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Boykin.
Kovalenko feinted there with a counter leg kick.
Boykin shoots for a takedown but Kovalenko saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Nikolai Kovalenko has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Dimentiy Boykin.
Kovalenko scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.

It looks like Dimentiy Boykin has been cut.

Oooooh!!! Kovalenko has knocked Boykin down with a huge combo! Kovalenko steps away and waves a wobbly Boykin back to his feet! This one might not go much longer!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
A solid leg kick lands there for Kovalenko.
Boykin takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Boykin looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Kovalenko is fending him off so far but Boykin persists. Nope, Kovalenko circles away and we're back to standing.

and Boykin counters by moving into the clinch.

Kovalenko's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Boykin tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Kovalenko defends well and Boykin ends up having to push Kovalenko into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Boykin shoots in but no luck this time.
Dimentiy Boykin seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Kovalenko pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Boykin tries to clinch but Kovalenko is having none of it.
Boykin misses with a body shot.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Kovalenko, right into the meat.
Boykin fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Kovalenko manages to avoid it.
Nikolai Kovalenko is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Boykin shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Kovalenko defends it nicely.

Kovalenko pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Boykin takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?
