Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Willum Reed!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Steven NZonzi!
The judges for this bout are Ben Watson, Damien Edna and Bruno Hogan.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
NZonzi misses with a low kick.
NZonzi feints and then cracks Reed's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Reed down.
NZonzi throws a leg kick
and Reed counters by clinching up.
Reed pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Reed has a takedown stuffed.
Reed fails with a takedown attempt.
NZonzi looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Reed breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
NZonzi keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Reed.
NZonzi keeps Reed at a distance using the push kick.
Steven NZonzi seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
NZonzi scores with a nice body kick.
Reed seems to be moving with more speed, compared to his last bout. He must have been working on that in the gym.
Reed checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.
NZonzi throws a leg kick but Reed sees it coming and moves out of range.
Reed wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch.
That's one minute gone in the round.
NZonzi lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
Steven NZonzi is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Reed shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as NZonzi sprawls well. NZonzi wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Reed gets slowly back to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Willum Reed. That's going to take a lot out of him.
NZonzi misses with a kick to the body.
Reed half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
Reed throws a right and a left that both miss.
Reed moves into the clinch successfully.
Reed is trying to pull guard but NZonzi has him pressed against the cage.
Reed jumps into guard, dragging NZonzi to the mat.
Reed has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but NZonzi can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Reed looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
NZonzi looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
NZonzi stops Reed from standing up.
That's two minutes gone in the round.
NZonzi thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
NZonzi passes Reed's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Reed is trying to get back to full guard.
Reed is doing well to control the position and prevent NZonzi from advancing to side control.
NZonzi in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Reed tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from NZonzi!
