The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shawn moves away from the strike by Matrix.

Shawn clinches.
Shawn lands a nice elbow.

Shawn digs a right hand underneath Matrix's ribcage. Matrix let out a lung full of air as it connected.
Shawn lands a glancing elbow in the clinch.

It looks like John Matrix has been cut.

Our sources have told us that Shawn has been working on his knees in the buildup to the fight.
The referee is keeping an eye on Shawn - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.
Matrix avoids the elbow strike from Shawn, against the cage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Matrix is trying to stall.
Shawn pushes off and fires off an elbow that misses, before clinching up again, against the cage.

Matrix wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Shawn has him pressed against the cage.
Shawn throws a nice elbow but it doesn't land.
Matrix has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Matrix is trying to pull guard but Shawn turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
Matrix can't get the takedown.
Spencer Shawn has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of John Matrix.
Matrix wants to break the clinch but can't.
Shawn is pushing Matrix up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
Matrix tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Shawn smiles and moves away.
Matrix on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
