PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Manuel Perez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jimmy Johns (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Manuel Perez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 1, fighting out of New York, Jimmy Johns!
The judges for this bout are Sosuke Kotani, Shigeki Sano and Shirou Masuda.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Perez swings for the body but Johns moves out of range.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Johns.
Perez blocks a head kick by Johns.
A little feinted left hand from Perez on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
Perez misses with an uppercut

and Johns counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Perez!

Johns tries for a kimura but Perez is defending well.
Perez pushes Johns away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Johns gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
Johns with the ground and pound but Perez regains half guard under the barage of strikes.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Johns wants to work for an arm triangle but Perez is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Johns looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Perez pushes Johns off looking to stand but Johns dives back in and keeps control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Johns wants to pass the guard but Perez is defending well.
Johns missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Perez wants to get back to his feet.

Johns is trying to work for a kimura but Perez is defending well.
Johns not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Johns works his foot free and advances to mount.

Johns is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Perez can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Johns fails to move to back control.
Perez knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Johns on the ground.
Perez holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Johns tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.
Johns trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Johns moves to back control.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Johns is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Perez is defending well though. Johns let's go of the attempt for now.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Johns has his opponent's back and is working for the choke.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jimmy Johns dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Johns does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Johns fails with a takedown attempt.
Perez is looking to counter punch.
Johns checks a leg kick.
Perez misses with a low kick.
Johns shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Perez counters with a straight right hand.
Johns tries to land a front kick but Perez steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Johns throws a front kick aimed at Perez's knee but Perez avoids it well.
Johns connects with a solid leg kick.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Perez lands with a nice body punch.
Johns lands a nice leg kick that just misses Perez's sensitive parts.
Perez fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
Perez misses the shot to the body.
Johns uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Perez.
Johns shapes to counter with a head kick.

Perez lands with a shot to the body.
Perez throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Johns misses with a low kick.
Johns throws a nice outside leg kick.
Perez scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Perez throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Perez misses with a looping left.
Nice body punch from Perez.
Manuel Perez is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Perez on the wrong end of a kick to the body.
Perez is looking to chop away at Johns's legs.
Johns flicks out a counter leg kick but Perez steps away.
Johns has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Perez throws a poor cross that misses
and Johns counters with an inside leg kick.
Johns wants to land a leg kick but Perez is out of range.
Perez scores with a nice head shot.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Perez misses the shot to the body.
Perez misses with a hook. Johns ducked under it nicely.
Johns throws a head kick but Perez moves out of range.
Johns throws a solid leg kick but Perez takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Johns.
Perez blocks the body kick.
Perez appears to be looking for a big counter.
Perez thuds a left hand into Johns's body.
Nice body kick there by Johns.
Perez lands with a shot to the body.
Manuel Perez is winning the standup battle so far.
The fighters circle momentarily. Perez darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Perez cracks Johns with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.


Johns is rocked!
Perez walks forward and throws a big overhand right! Johns drops to the floor like a sack of potatoes! Perez swarms on him with more punches until the referee wrestles him away from Johns's unconscious body! Wow, that was brutal!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:49 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Manuel Perez!
In his post fight interview, Manuel Perez started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
In defeat, Jimmy Johns stepped up to the mic, saying 'Congratulations to my very worthy opponent. Today just wasn't my day, but rest assured that I will be back stronger than ever. '.
