PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Pow Pow (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Arvad Gerber (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Pow Pow!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Arvad Gerber!
The judges for this bout are Chad Campbell, Franklyn Lucas and Joseph Jones.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pow looks to land a body kick but Gerber moved away.
Pow tries to land a leg kick but Gerber saw it coming and moves away.
Pow ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Gerber moves away.
Gerber is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.
Pow uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Gerber.
Pow seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance.
Gerber changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Pow tries to avoid it but Gerber manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Pow to the ground. Pow escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Gerber gets a double leg takedown into Pow's guard.
Pow looking to hit a scissor sweep but Gerber is one step ahead there.

Gerber thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gerber wants to control from the top but Pow keeps moving.
My spies in Disciples Top Team inform me that Gerber has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!

Pow can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Gerber controls the pace.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Pow finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.

enabling Gerber to counter with a crisp jab.
Pow lands an overhand right.
Pow throws a body shot but no joy.
Pow throws a head kick but Gerber moves out of range.
Gerber scores with a jab.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Pow lands a leg kick that knocks Gerber off balance momentarily.
Pow throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.
Pow connects with a solid leg kick.
Pow throws a sloppy head kick and Gerber moves out of range easily.
Pow throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Gerber feints a counter leg kick.
Gerber has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Pow.
Gerber throws a jab when Pow was well out of range.
Pow wants to clinch but Gerber slips to the side
and Gerber counters with a stiff right hand.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Pow pushes Gerber away with a front kick.
Pow scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Gerber doesn't seem bothered though.
Pow tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Gerber was well out of range. Poor timing from Pow.
Pow goes for a high kick. It partially lands.
Pow checks the leg kick.
Pow misses with a head kick.
Pow moves into range and connects with a jab.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Pow tries to close the distance and clinch up but Gerber swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Pow Pow seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Pow on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
Pow takes a jab right on the kisser.
Pow just misses with a punch to the body.
Pow fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
Gerber lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
Pow pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Gerber swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
Pow throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.
Pow throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Gerber fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Gerber thuds his right hand into Pow's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Pow scores with a leg kick.
Pow works the jab nicely.
Pow is looking light on his feet compared to last time was saw him fight.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Pow's jab looks to have found its range, popping Gerber under the eye.
Pow lands a leg kick that knocks Gerber off balance momentarily.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Gerber is defended easily by Pow.
Pow Pow has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Arvad Gerber.
Pow is looking to land body kicks.
Good standup being displayed there by Gerber as he connects with a hook.
A slapping leg kick lands for Pow.
Gerber drops his hands momentarily and Pow takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Gerber connects with a solid leg kick.
Gerber scores with a crisp jab that stopped Pow in his tracks.
Pow misses with a body shot
and Gerber counters with a stiff right hand.
Pow is looking to wear down Gerber with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.
Gerber blocks a head kick by Pow.
Pow throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Gerber's head.

and Gerber counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Gerber.

Gerber drops back looking for a leg! Pow is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Pow manages to kick Gerber off! Gerber jumps back into Pow's guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Pow Pow will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Pow dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Pow Pow is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Pow displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Gerber throws out the jab.
Pow connects with a body shot.
Pow turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
Pow throws a shot to the body.
Pow throws a leg kick that misses.
Gerber with the counter takedown but Pow avoids it easily.
Pow throws a mid kick that lands with a slap.

and Gerber holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Pow can't break the clinch.

Gerber looking for a guillotine here but Pow defends easily.

Gerber looking to try and escape his hips here, looking for a submission. It looks like he's going for a triangle but Pow is defending well. Gerber quickly switches to an armbar and extends the arm! Pow has no choice but to tap, to a very quick submission! Wow, that was lightning fast! Gerber celebrates on the cage, with the crowd.
