The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Thompson closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Thompson thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

Patton moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Thompson throws a strike but Patton rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Patton postures up in Thompson's guard and throws a big left but Thompson blocks it.
Thompson is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Thompson is striking but Patton is not phased and passes to half guard.
Thompson tries to roll over but Patton keeps him under control.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Thompson has a hand on Patton's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Patton takes advantage of the position though and mounts him!

Patton is working for a guillotine from mount but Thompson frees his head quite easily.
Patton has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Thompson's face.
