PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Phillip Clark (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and George Pierre (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Phillip Clark!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, George Pierre!
The judges for this bout are Nard Betker, Patrick Alders and Aafke Stam.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pierre rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Clark moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
George Pierre seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Pierre throws a low kick but Clark avoids it.

Pierre looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Clark has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Pierre is working away from the top position though.
Clark flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Clark wants to control but Pierre is keeping busy.
Clark moves into full guard.
Clark looking for a sweep. Not yet Clark, not yet.

Pierre keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Clark's head.
Clark trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.
Clark wants to control but Pierre passes easily into half guard.

Pierre stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Clark to get to his feet.

Pierre looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

Pierre thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Clark's head.
Clark slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.

Clark has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Pierre has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.

Clark manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Pierre must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Pierre won't allow Clark to sweep him here.
Clark manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Pierre manages to get himself to full guard.


Clark gets to his feet. Pierre looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Clark closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Pierre preventing the sweep.
Clark keeping busy, throwing shots from the bottom.
Clark is trying to control the position but Pierre postures up.
Pierre with a flurry of punches that miss.

Clark has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Clark bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Pierre's guard.

Clark decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Clark tries to clinch up.
Pierre lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Pierre avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Pierre tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Pierre drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

George Pierre dominated that round.

Pierre is looking to score with low kicks.
Pierre fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Phillip Clark is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Pierre avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

and Clark counters with a three punch combo that has Pierre backing up. Pierre nods at Clark to acknowledge the strikes.
Pierre is breathing heavily.
Pierre lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.
Clark tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Pierre manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Pierre throws a right and a left that both miss.
Clark seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter.
Clark showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Pierre.

Pierre motions for Clark to come forward. Pierre throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.

Pierre changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Clark looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Clark gets back to half guard.
Clark tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.
Clark is doing well to control the position and prevent Pierre from advancing to side control.
Clark has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Pierre is working away from the top position though.

The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Clark is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Despite the aggression on Pierre's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.
Clark is looking to clinch but Pierre is avoiding it.

Clark makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Clark.
Clark wants to sweep but no luck.
Clark doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Clark lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

George Pierre showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Clark's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Clark pulls Pierre in close to his closed guard and prevents Pierre from doing any damage or advancing position.
Clark will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Pierre wants to get up but he can't break Clark's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Pierre closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Clark did well to prevent Pierre getting side control.

Pierre wants to work for an arm triangle but Clark is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Clark works his way to full guard. Good work.
Clark throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
Clark is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Clark has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

This is a sustained period of stalling by Clark.

The fight stays on the outside here - Clark looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Clark tries to close the distance and clinch but Pierre swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Pierre fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Clark checks it well.
Pierre misses with a kick to the body.

Pierre looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.

Clark darts in and clinches Pierre up against the cage.
Clark is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Pierre to keep the fight standing.

Clark ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Clark no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Clark wants to sweep but no luck.
Phillip Clark has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
George Pierre is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Pierre has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Clark is wriggling around but Pierre manages to pass to half guard.

I've got Pierre winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
