The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Garrett connects with a body shot that sends Pierre's belly button to the back.

We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Pierre shoots in for a double leg but Garrett sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Garrett will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Pierre closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Pierre lands in his opponent's guard.

Garrett is looking for a triangle here but Pierre uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Garrett pushes Pierre away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Pierre gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
