PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Cletus Kasady (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kirk Hall (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Cletus Kasady!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 6 - 0, fighting out of New York, Kirk Hall!
The judges for this bout are Joseph Jones, Russell Pearce and David Schapiro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hall lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Kasady circles away quickly and effectively.
Hall misses with an uppercut. Kasady saw that one coming.
Hall misses with a jab, cross combination.
A combination from Hall does no damage.
Kasady tries to counter with a takedown but Hall is quick to defend against it.

Kasady closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Kasady lands in his opponent's guard.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Kasady seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Hall for as long as he can get away with.
Kasady throws a big elbow that misses.
Kasady is stalling in the full guard.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Kasady stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Hall swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Kasady has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Kasady.
Hall throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Kasady tries for a takedown but Hall sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Despite the aggression on Hall's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.
Kasady fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Hall has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Kasady is landing a low percentage of strikes.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Cletus Kasady. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Kasady closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Hall to the mat! Hall manages to get full guard.
Kasady's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Kasady continues to stall.

Hall preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Kasady shoots in looking for a takedown. Hall tries to sprawl out of it but Kasady keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Hall manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Kasady is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Hall's half guard.

Hall won't allow Kasady to pass to mount.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Hall is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Kasady's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Kasady's back!
Kasady has his hands over his head blocking the strikes from Hall.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Cletus Kasady will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Hall misses with a series of wild punches.
Kasady has a takedown stuffed.

Kasady manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Hall on his heels. He'll look to pass Hall's guard now, I'm sure.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kasady content to stall in guard here.
Hall is breathing heavily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Hall wants to sweep but no luck.
Kasady controlling from the top position.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Kasady has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Kasady clinches up with Hall and pushes him back against the cage.
Kasady fails to pull the fight into his guard.

Kasady pulls guard successfully.
Kasady pulls Hall in close to prevent any damage.
Kasady's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Cletus Kasady overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Kasady striking off his back but it's not causing Hall any problems.

Kasady seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Hall throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Kasady is on top in guard.

Kasady knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Hall on the ground.
Kasady controls from within his opponent's guard.
Kasady is looking to pass into half guard but Hall pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Hall is in guard.

Kasady wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Hall with a flurry of punches that miss.
Hall throws a strike but Kasady rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Kasady not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Kasady is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Cletus Kasady dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


No luck with that takedown attempt from Kasady.

Kasady shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Kasady was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Hall takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Kirk Hall is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Hall throws a poor cross that misses

and Kasady counters with a shoot takedown. Hall fights it but they end up in guard.
Kasady wants to pass the guard but Hall is keeping the position.
Kasady engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Kasady tries to free his leg and advance position but Hall is retaining full guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Kasady stays in close to Hall's body and controls the position.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Further stalling from Kasady.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Kasady looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Hall!
Hall is being controlled here.
Hall prevents Kasady from moving into mount.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.

Kasady misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
You can see the frustration on Hall's face as Kasady controls the position.
Kirk Hall has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Cletus Kasady is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

And that's the end of the fight!
Cletus Kasady showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Kasady, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
