Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between JJ Thomas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mees Metsast (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Thomas comes to the cage accompanied by Linkin Park - In the End. Both fighters look pumped up here. Let's hope this is a good fight!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, JJ Thomas!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Mees Metsast!
The judges for this bout are Micheangelo Fripello, Josh West and Paul Gruel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A combination from Metsast does no damage.

Thomas closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Thomas trying to mount his opponent but Metsast defends it.
Metsast felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
Thomas is looking for the mount but instead finds himself back in full guard.

Metsast wants to sweep here but Thomas controlling him for the moment.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Thomas stands and throws Metsast's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Thomas has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Metsast!
Metsast is wriggling around trying to escape.
Metsast is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.
Metsast really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Thomas. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Thomas goes for an armbar but Metsast turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Metsast.

Thomas had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Metsast defends it easily.
Metsast wants to control from the top but Thomas keeps moving.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Thomas had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Metsast defends it easily.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Metsast is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Metsast prevents Thomas from getting back to his feet.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Thomas steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Metsast.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Thomas looks to land a right hand but Metsast moved out of range.
Metsast avoids a punch combination nicely.

Thomas tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Metsast was well out of range. Poor timing from Thomas.

Thomas wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Metsast, who protects the arm well.

JJ Thomas overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Metsast seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Thomas isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Metsast stacks Thomas on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Metsast!

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Metsast wants to lay and pray for a moment but Thomas keeps working.
Metsast just content to control the position.
Thomas manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Metsast wants to take a breather but Thomas is having none of it.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Metsast content to control rather than advance.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

JJ Thomas dominated that second round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


Thomas fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Metsast manages to avoid it.
Metsast looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.
Thomas throws a poor cross that misses
and Metsast counters with a two punch combo.
Thomas shoots for a double leg takedown but Metsast sprawls well. He's pushed Thomas's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Metsast unleashes a big counter combination but Thomas bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.

Metsast looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Thomas rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Metsast moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Thomas misses with an uppercut. Metsast saw that one coming.
Metsast follows through with a counter body kick but it doesn't land.
Thomas lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Thomas is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Metsast can do to turn this around?

Thomas blocks a head kick by Metsast.
It looked like Thomas was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.
Thomas scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Thomas darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
Metsast takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Metsast takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
JJ Thomas seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Metsast moves away from the strike by Thomas.
It looks like Thomas has been trying to sharpen up his punching technique, as it looks crisper than last time we saw him.
Thomas feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Metsasts jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
Metsast is looking to land body kicks.

Thomas scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Metsast makes his way to full guard, as Thomas worked for a kimura.
Metsast has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

Well Thomas has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
