The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Clayton tries to bum rush Mccarthy with a series of wild strikes but Mccarthy uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Clayton throws a predictable looking body shot

and Mccarthy counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Clayton makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Clayton.
Mccarthy has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Mccarthy postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Clayton is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Clayton lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Mccarthy will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Mccarthy is looking to stand up but Clayton won't let him.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Clayton grits his teeth and throws a big right-left combo! Mccarthy takes both shots clean on the chin and is out cold! Clayton cracks him once more on his way down, as the crowd goes wild! They enjoyed that one!
