The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mendes clinches with his opponent.
Lewis really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Mendes lands a hook to the side of the head.
Lewis manages to break the clinch.
Mendes shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Mendes was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Lewis wants to control but Mendes postures up.
Lewis is trying to improve his position.
Lewis tries to control the position but he's not in luck - Mendes easily slips into full mount!
Mendes is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Lewis has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Lewis!
Mendes is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Lewis defends well.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Lewis accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Lewis throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Mendes works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Mendes is working for submissions here. He's thrown up his legs looking for a triangle but Lewis frees his head nicely. Oh but Mendes has switched to an armbar! Lewis is tapping furiously! Lovely submission there!
