PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Zalmai Qazi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Frankie Fryer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Qazi might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to "Arab Americans" by Jim Johnston. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Fryer misses with an attempted mid kick.
Qazi tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Fryer paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Qazi plants his feet and lands a nice head kick!

Fryer has Qazi up against the cage in a clinch.
Qazi has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Qazi is trying to break free.
Qazi wants to take the fight to the mat but Fryer manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
Qazi is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

Fryer manages to break the clinch.

Fryer rushes Qazi and presses him up against the cage.

Fryer breaks the clinch.

Fryer fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Qazi to the ground. Fryer is now in Qazi's guard.
Qazi will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Fryer throws a big right hand that misses.
Fryer must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Fryer stands up and waves to Qazi to follow him.

and Fryer counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Qazi is looking to improve his position.

Qazi wants to get back to full guard.

Fryer is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Fryer wants to pass the guard but Qazi is defending well.

Fryer escapes and gets back to his feet.
Fryer tries a low kick but Qazi avoids it.
Qazi fails with an attempt to clinch.
Fryer swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.

Fryer looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Fryer passes to full mount!

Fryer controlling the position easily from mount.
Let's hope that Fryer has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Qazi is wriggling around trying to escape.
Fryer scoring with strikes but Qazi is staying in there.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Fryer swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Qazi is now in Fryer's guard. A big mistake from Fryer there, giving up the dominant position!

Fryer pushes a forearm under Qazi's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Qazi is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!
