PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Ademir Azevado (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Duncan Jon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Ademir Azevado!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 7 - 0, fighting out of New York, Duncan Jon!
The judges for this bout are Chris Saunders, Jeff Smith and Colin Fray.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Azevado slips under a jab from Jon.
Azevado staying out of range there.
Jon fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Jon throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Jon misses the shot to the body.
Jon lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Azevado circles away quickly and effectively.
Azevado lands a jab.
Jon misses with a hook.
A nice leg kick lands there from Azevado.
Azevado has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
Jon throws a jab but it's blocked by Azevado.
Jon lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
Azevado thows a leg kick but Jon checks it
and Jon counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Jon misses the shot to the body.

Azevado shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Jon can do anything to dispel that myth.
Jon wants to get back to his feet.

Azevado is trying to work for a kimura but Jon is defending well.
Jon is looking to escape.

Jon is not content to let Azevado control the position.
Jon has found himself in a tricky position here. He's been working his transitions in training so let's see if he can work his way out of it.

Azevado is working for a kimura but Jon is defending it quite comfortably.
Jon wants to get back to his feet.
Jon really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Azevado. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Azevado is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Jon doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Azevado.

Jon is trying to stand back up but Azevado is controlling him
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Azevado tries to pass the half guard into mount. Jon knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Azevado is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Jon is just riding it out for now. Azevado eventually gives up the hold.
Azevado is taking a breather. Jon says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Azevado wants to free his trapped foot but Jon is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Azevado wants to control but Jon is keeping him busy.
Jon is trying to stand.
Azevado stalling away here and it's allowed Jon to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.

Jon wriggles free and stands up.
Jon throws a lazy uppercut

and Azevado counters with a shoot takedown. Jon fights it but they end up in guard.
Jon wants to stand and escape but Azevado is having none of it.

Azevado drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Azevado jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Azevado wants to control from the top but Jon keeps moving.

Azevado drops back looking for a leg! Jon is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Jon manages to kick Azevado off! Azevado jumps back into Jon's guard.

Azevado won't allow Jon to get back to his feet.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Duncan Jon seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
The fighters circling - Jon throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Azevado throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Jon throws an overhand right that lands on Azevado's shoulder, as Azevado tries to avoid the shot.
Azevado scores with a sloppy right hand. Jon should have avoided that one.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Jon cracks Azevado with an open hand slap.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Ademir Azevado will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Jon wants to get back to his feet but Azevado is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Ademir Azevado overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Azevado wants to pass the guard but Jon is keeping the position.
Azevado prevents Jon from getting back to his feet.

Azevado drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Azevado jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Jon is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Azevado is controlling him.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Azevado wants to control from the top but Jon keeps moving.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Azevado works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
Azevado steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Jon.
Azevado lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Nice sprawl there from Jon as Azevado shoots in.
A punch lands to the side of Azevado 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Jon throws a body shot but no joy.
Azevado misses with a wild body shot.
Duncan Jon seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Jon throws a big shot that misses.
Jon misses with a hook. Azevado ducked under it nicely.
Jon swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Azevado uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Jon.
Jon throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Azevado tries to counter with a takedown but Jon is quick to defend against it.
Azevado tests Jon's chin there with a solid looking shot.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Jon moves into range and connects with a jab.

No luck with that takedown attempt from Azevado.
Azevado scores with a decent looking hook.
Azevado avoids the body shot from Jon.
Jon stuffs the takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ademir Azevado. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Jon feints a jab promting Azevado to slip. Jon then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Azevado slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.

Jon looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.
Jon throws a body punch but Azevado moves out of range.
Duncan Jon is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Jon tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Azevado was well out of range. Poor timing from Jon.
Azevado buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Jon throws a right hand that Azevado ducks under and follows up with a left that Azevado also avoids with ease.
Jon swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Azevado dodges the punch combination from Jon.

Azevado drives through and clinches with Jon against the cage.
Azevado tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.

Jon breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Azevado feinted with a counter takedown.

Jon swings and misses with a shot to the body

so Azevado counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Azevado works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Azevado stops Jon from getting back to his feet.
Jon is breathing heavily.
Azevado wants to take a breather but Jon is having none of it.

Azevado is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Jon doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Azevado.

Azevado has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Jon defend it? Azevado steps over the head and cranks it - Jon is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Azevado!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:50 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Ademir Azevado!

Ademir Azevado seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
