PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Purple Haze (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jordan James (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 9 - 0, fighting out of New York, Purple Haze!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jordan James!
The judges for this bout are Jonathan Paton, Steve Montenegro and John Roberts.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

James feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Haze can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as James controls the pace.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
James sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Haze's guard.
Haze might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with James in particular looking to stall.

Haze tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Haze tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but James was well out of range. Poor timing from Haze.

James throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Haze tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. James is in Haze's guard.
Haze can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as James controls the pace.
Haze wants to get back to his feet but James is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Haze has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
James stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Haze swivels though and keeps the full guard.

James is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
James keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Haze's head.

Well, if James is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. James connects with a nice short shot to Haze's temple.
James is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Haze tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
James frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
James fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Haze bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!
Haze is fighting to break James's control of his arms but James is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
James is continuing to stall.
James manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Haze manages to get himself to full guard.


That's four minutes gone in the round.
Haze throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
James stands and throws Haze's legs to the side, diving into side control.

James decides to stand back up. James steps back and let's Haze get back to his feet.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Haze is trying to escape the position but James is controlling the position.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jordan James dominated that round.
That's time! Haze's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.



James dives in and scores a takedown into Haze's guard.
James is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

James gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

James is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Haze has managed to free his arm - good work.

James controlling the action here.
Let's hope that James has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
James is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.

James is looking for a kimura but Haze is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for James to get the leverage.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Haze pushes James off looking to stand but James dives back in and keeps control.
James with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Haze has hold of James's hands but James slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.

James drops an elbow to the side of Haze's head.
James is taking a breather. Haze says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. James lands a nice short elbow.
James looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Haze with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

James slips a nice elbow through Haze's hands, connecting with Haze's forehead.

James is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

James is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Haze is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:57 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Jordan James!
