Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Rodney Russel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Quin Kenobi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Russel comes to the cage accompanied by Cheesesteaks. Quin Kenobi told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kenobi blocks a head kick by Russel.
Russel gets the takedown into side control.
Russel tries to stand but Kenobi is controlling his head.
Kenobi is trying to control Russel's posture but Russel avoids it.
Russel wants to stand but Kenobi has his arm trapped.
Russel trying to control the position but Kenobi is working away.
Kenobi sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.

Kenobi manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Russel manages to get himself to full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Russel wants to stand and escape but Kenobi is having none of it.

Russel is trying to control Kenobi's posture but Kenobi avoids it.

Russel seems a little lost for a moment, as Kenobi dominates the positioning.
The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Russel wants to clinch
and Kenobi counters with a shoot takedown. Russel fights it but they end up in guard.
Kenobi trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Russel can't keep his opponent in guard - Kenobi advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Russel is refusing to be controlled, as Kenobi sits in half guard.
Kenobi is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

Kenobi is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Kenobi wants to pass the guard but Russel is defending well.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Kenobi is working for a submission of some sort.
Kenobi wants to free his trapped foot but Russel is holding on for dear life with his legs.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!
Kenobi bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Kenobi is looking to take a break and control but Russel is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Russel regains half guard there - taking advantage of Kenobi's attempt to lay and pray for a moment.
Kenobi has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Kenobi wants to control but Russel is keeping him busy.
Kenobi passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Russel!

Russel sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.
Kenobi is pressing down on Russel's thigh, looking to free his foot. Russel is holding on for now.
Kenobi takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Kenobi looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Russel with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Kenobi is looking to advance position but Russel won't allow it.
Kenobi passes to full mount!
Kenobi works his way to his opponent's back.
Kenobi is looking for the choke from the back position but Russel is controlling his hands well.
Russel trying to get back to his feet but Kenobi is in full control for now.

Kenobi is controlling the position but Russel somehow manages to roll and ends up with half guard.

Kenobi moves into full mount! Russel won't be happy about that!

Kenobi moves to take his opponent's back.
Kenobi is working hard for the rear naked choke here.
Russel is staying cool under pressure, defending well against the rear naked choke attempt from his opponent.
Kenobi is working for a rear naked choke. Russel is not defending it well and Kenobi has tightened it up quickly! This could be all over! Russel refuses to tap and goes to sleep, forcing the referee to intervene. A little trickle of blood came out of Russel's nose as his head slumped to the floor. That is naaaasty!
