PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between John Matrix (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Smee Again (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The key to victory for John Matrix has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, John Matrix!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Smee Again!
The judges for this bout are Roosa Järviläinen, Johanna Lukiainen and Tarja Halkonen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Again swats away the attempt to clinch by Matrix.
A left lands for Again.
A combination from Matrix does no damage.

Again closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Matrix to the mat! Matrix manages to get full guard.
Again controls from within his opponent's guard.
Again slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Again slows the pace down.

Again tries for a kimura but Matrix is defending well.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Again just content to control the position.
Again lands a few punches from side control.
A lull in the action here.
Again throwing strikes but missing, from side control.
Again is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
Matrix wants to control but Again postures up.
Matrix is in a tricky position but he's been working on his transitions down at Bad Pluto! (17 Elite Coach), so we'll see if he gets out of it.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Again is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Matrix has escaped the position, nice work there.
Matrix is looking for a sweep.
Again taking a breather here.
Matrix tries to improve position but can't.

Again fails to land a wild elbow strike.
Matrix trying to remain calm as Again controls from the top position.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Matrix tries to improve position but can't.

Again is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Matrix is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Again is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.

Again stands up.

Again scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Matrix has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Again is working away from the top position though.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Again stalling.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Smee Again dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Again moves into the clinch successfully.
Matrix drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Again tries for a takedown. No joy.
The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.
Again tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Again breaks the clinch.
Matrix misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Again changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Matrix fails with a takedown attempt.

Again shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Again showed some decent athleticism there.

Again with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Matrix knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Again on the ground.
Matrix tries to kick Again off but Again keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Again tries to pass to full mount but Matrix defends it.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Again sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Matrix defending well though.
Again slows the pace down in half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Again takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
Matrix fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for John Matrix. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Again closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Matrix's guard.
Again sitting in guard, not really doing much.

Again passes Matrix's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Again content to control rather than advance.

Again is trying to work for a kimura but Matrix is defending well.
Again is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

Again missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Again stands up out of the half guard.
Matrix tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Again swivels and escapes.
Again tries to counter by closing the distance.
No luck for Matrix with that takedown attempt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Smee Again showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


Matrix shoots in for a takedown but Again shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Again fails with an attempt to clinch.

Again shoots in and bounces Matrix off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Matrix looking for a sweep. Not yet Matrix, not yet.
Again is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Again passes into half guard.

Again has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Again passes to side control.
Again working the ground and pound from side control.
Again remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
Again lands a nice forearm strike.
Matrix is trying to control Again's posture but Again avoids it.

Again stands up.

Matrix shoots in for a takedown but Again shows good takedown defense.
Again throws a counter combo.

Again shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Again takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Matrix is trying to stand back up but Again is controlling him
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Again in particular looking to stall.

Again passes to side control.
Again works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
Again takes a little break here. Matrix wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Again is continuing to stall.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Matrix wants to clinch up but Again keeps it at a distance.

Again is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Matrix's half guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Again working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
John Matrix has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Smee Again is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Again in particular looking to stall.

Smee Again comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Again has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
