The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shumate misses with a looping right.
Shumate throws a body shot but no joy.
Shumate rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Alonso counters with a good low kick that Shumate was not able to check.
Shumate misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Alonso.

and Alonso counters with a one-two to the body.
Alonso looks to land a combination but Shumate avoids it well.
Alonso throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Shumate.

Shumate tests Alonso's chin there with a solid looking shot.

Alonso cracks Shumate with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the ropes.
Alonso buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.

Shumate ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Alonso moves away.
Alonso moves out of range as Shumate throws a body kick.
Alonso avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Alonso lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt.
Alonso fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Shumate has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Alonso.
Shumate looks to score with a jab to the body but Alonso is just out of range.

Shumate takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Alonso throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Alonso walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Alonso is really peppering his opponent's head with punches.
The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Shumate pushing out the jab but it's not landing.

Ouch! a nice leg kick from Alonso, right into the meat.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
Alonso jabs Shumate to the body, keeping him at a distance.
Alonso misses with a few strikes there.
Alonso rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Shumate moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Shumate is clearly trying to counter these attacks from Alonso with a body shot.
Alonso thuds his right hand into Shumate's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Shumate connects with a combination that backs up Alonso into the ropes. Shumate lands a flurry of punches that gets past Alonso's guard. Alonso is down and the referee has seen enough. It is all over! Shumate bursts into tears - this win obviously means a huge amount to him.
