PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jay Walker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jack Gates (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Walker might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Top Cats - Red Light Spells Danger. Jay Walker had a look across the cage there at his opponent. He definitely means business

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jay Walker!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 14 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jack Gates!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Lombardi, Chad Campbell and David Schapiro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Walker defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Gates.
Gates fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Walker avoids it really well and circles away.
Gates is trying hard to land a takedown here. Walker sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Jay Walker has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jack Gates.
Walker misses with a looping right.
Gates steps in looking to clinch after the strikes miss from Walker.
Gates gets cracked there but stands up to it.
A looping hook to the body misses from Walker. Gates does a little dance to reset his feet.
Gates drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Walker defends it well.

Walker is pressed up against the cage. Gates has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Walker down to the mat. Walker avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Nice straight punches there by Walker. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Walker.
Walker swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Gates is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.

and Walker counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Walker takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Walker throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Gates sees it coming and avoids it easily.

Walker throws a shot from downtown. Gates moves away and avoids it.
Gates shoots in for a double leg but Walker sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Walker lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Walker is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all.
Walker throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Gates on the side of the head.
Walker throws a lazy right hand but Gates sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Walker throws a jab when Gates was well out of range.
Gates tries to counter with a clinch but Walker shakes him off and moves away.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Jay Walker dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Gates shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Walker's guard.

Gates got a little sloppy there for a moment and Walker has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Gates has managed to get both his arms back between Walker's legs - danger averted.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Walker feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Gatess jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
Gates keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Walker.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Gates! But no joy.
Walker stalks Gates and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Gates's face. Gates staggers backwards, shaken.

Jack Gates has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Gates shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Walker has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Gates is working away from the top position though.

Jay Walker showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Walker, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
