PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Brian Nunez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jean Seenah (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Seenah has chosen My Time Is Now as his entrance music. Jean Seenah told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Brian Nunez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jean Seenah!
The judges for this bout are Josh West, Jeff Smith and Paul Gruel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nunez tries to clinch up.
Seenah lands with a good body shot.

Seenah pushes Nunez up against the cage in a clinch.

Nunez escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Nunez doesn't manage to clinch there - Seenah circles away.

Seenah has Nunez up against the cage in a clinch.

Seenah gets a trip takedown into half guard.
Nunez is trying to escape back to his feet but Seenah uses the scramble to pass into side control.
Nunez is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Seenah has just dragged him back down to the mat.

Seenah wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Nunez, who protects the arm well.
Nunez is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Seenah is one step ahead and moves to full mount!

Seenah looking to finish Nunez with some ground and pound. This is bad for Nunez!


It looks like Brian Nunez has been cut.
Seenah controlling from mount.

Seenah gets to his feet and calls his opponent to stand. Here come the fireworks!
Brian Nunez is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Seenah throws a feint and then finishes with a kick to the body.
Nunez is breathing heavily.

Seenah shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Nunez's guard.
Nunez will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Seenah is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Seenah gets to his feet. Nunez looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Nice takedown defense from Nunez. No joy for Seenah on that attempt.

Seenah closes the distance and clinches.
Seenah looking to throw knees to the head but Nunez is blocking nicely.

Seenah pulls Nunez into guard.
Seenah has his hands on Nunez's head, controlling the position.
Nunez really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Nunez trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Seenah manages to land a sweep and now he's on top!

Seenah stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Nunez swivels though and keeps the full guard.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Seenah pushes down on Nunez's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Seenah sitting and controlling from the half guard.
Seenah is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Nunez looks like he's trying to stand up.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Seenah tries to pass to full mount but Nunez defends it.
Seenah looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

Seenah stands up and beckons Nunez to join him on the feet.

Seenah gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Seenah stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.
Nunez wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

Seenah manages to break the clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jean Seenah dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Brian Nunez's cut.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!



Seenah closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Nunez to the mat! Nunez manages to get full guard.
Seenah working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Seenah wants to control from the top but Nunez keeps moving.
Nunez wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Seenah manages to pass to side control.
Seenah looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Nunez is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Seenah's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Seenah's back!
Seenah covering up well under a barage of strikes.
Seenah tries to escape the position.
Jean Seenah has got the better of the ground game so far.

Seenah keeps trying to improve his position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Seenah is trying to shake Nunez off. He's managed it and has hopped back to his feet! Nunez won't be happy about giving up the dominant position.

Seenah has closed the distance and engaged Nunez in a clinch.
Nunez wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Nunez prevents a takedown attempt there.
Seenah's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!
Seenah tries for a takedown but Nunez manages to get underhooks.
Nunez is defending well against a takedown attempt.
Brian Nunez has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jean Seenah.

Seenah using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Nunez has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.

Seenah breaks from the clinch.
Seenah throws a head kick that misses.

Seenah feints and as Nunez raises his hands in defense, Seenah changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Seenah is breathing heavily.

Nunez is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Seenah decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Nunez, up you get!
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Seenah.

Nunez closes the distance and clinches.

Nunez misses with a knee strike.
Seenah lands a nice knee to the body.

Seenah pulls guard successfully.
Nunez wants to control from the top but Seenah keeps moving.
Seenah tries to strike from the bottom.
Seenah is adopting a defensive guard.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Seenah can do anything to dispel that myth.

Nunez stopping the sweep attempt from Seenah.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Seenah has his foot on Nunez's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Nunez works his way back into a safe position though.
Seenah tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Seenah can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Nunez controls the pace.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Nunez doesn't manage to clinch there - Seenah circles away.
Seenah swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Seenah drives through and clinches with Nunez against the cage.
Seenah lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.


Brian Nunez's cut is getting worse.
Seenah avoiding damage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jean Seenah showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Nunez fails with an attempt to clinch.
Seenah shoots in looking for a takedown. Nunez tries to sprawl out of it but Seenah keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Nunez manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Seenah is defended easily by Nunez.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Seenah looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Nunez!

Seenah is putting a hurting on Nunez here, landing some big shots from side control.
Nunez is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Seenah is controlling him well.
Seenah scores with a couple of short elbows.


Nunez is rocked!

Seenah stands up.
Oh Nunez is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

Nunez is trying to stand back up but Seenah is controlling him
Nunez seems to have got his legs back now.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Seenah decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
Seenah is trying hard to land a takedown here. Nunez sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Nunez is looking to counter with a body kick.
Brian Nunez has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jean Seenah.
Seenah throws a series of punches but Nunez moves out of range.

Seenah clinches up against the cage.
Nunez misses with a short punch on the inside.

Seenah pulls Nunez into guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Nunez showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
Seenah has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Nunez looking to sit in guard and control but Seenah gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Seenah controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Seenah won't allow Nunez to get back to his feet.

Nunez looking for a guillotine here but Seenah defends easily.
Seenah sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Nunez's guard.
Seenah seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Seenah stops Nunez from getting back to his feet.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Seenah is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Let's hope that Seenah has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Seenah works his foot free and advances to mount.
Seenah lands a big shot there that rocks Nunez but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Jean Seenah is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Jean Seenah comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Seenah has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
