PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Benoit Jutras (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Darren Myles (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Myles has chosen Red Hot Chili Peppers - Can't Stop as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Darren Myles will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Benoit Jutras!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Darren Myles!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jutras misses with a wild body shot.
Myles throws a nice looking combination but Jutras bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Jutras fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Jutras throws a hook but Myles avoids it easily.
Myles throws a combination. Jutras tries to block but a couple of punches get through.
Myles looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Myles swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
A punch lands to the side of Myles 's head but he takes it in his stride.

Jutras clinches with his opponent.
Jutras lands a nice looking hook to the body, against the cage.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
A short uppercut from Jutras.
Jutras wants a takedown but no success here.
Myles blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Jutras content to slow the pace in the clinch.
Jutras misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Jutras wants a takedown.
Myles is pressed up against the cage. Jutras has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Myles down to the mat. Myles avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Myles throws a right and a left that Jutras avoids nicely.
Darren Myles is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Myles tries to bum rush Jutras with a series of wild strikes but Jutras uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Jutras tries to counter with a takedown but Myles is quick to defend against it.

Myles shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Jutras eats them both and turns towards Myles to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.
Myles throws a series of punches but Jutras avoids them all with ease.

Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
Myles takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Myles ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Jutras moves away.
Jutras changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Myles feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Jutrass jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Jutras avoids a punch combination nicely.

Myles uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Jutras.
Myles lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Jutras circles away quickly and effectively.

Jutras gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Myles blocking some punches.

Myles wants the takedown. Jutras is fighting it off but Myles persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Jutras's guard against the cage.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Jutras pulls Myles in close to his closed guard and prevents Myles from doing any damage or advancing position.
Jutras seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Jutras tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Jutras is trying to control the position from the bottom.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Some wild striking there from Myles.
Jutras misses with a straight right.
Myles rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Jutras moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Myles looks to land a combination but Jutras avoids it well.
Jutras changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Myles moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Myles ducks under a wild hook from Jutras.
Jutras throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Myles connects with a single shot there.
Myles throws a series of punches but Jutras moves out of range.
Jutras changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Jutras tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Myles paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Jutras scores with a hook to the body. Myles takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Myles will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Jutras fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Myles, pushing him back against the cage.

Jutras is working for takedown but Myles is calmly controlling the position for now.

Myles works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
Jutras is pulling down on Myles's head. It's preventing any offense from Myles, at least for the moment.
Jutras wants to sweep but no luck.
Jutras lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Darren Myles dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

The crowd cheers as Myles lands an impressive looking overhand right. Jutras doesn't seem phased though.
Benoit Jutras seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Jutras closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Myles throws a series of punches but Jutras moves out of range.
Jutras tries to close the distance and clinch but Myles swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Jutras misses with an uppercut. Myles saw that one coming.
Darren Myles is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Myles steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Jutras.
A telegraphed right hand from Jutras misses the target.
Jutras throws a big shot that misses.
A jab lands there for Jutras.
Jutras fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Myles circles away from the clinch attempt.

and Jutras counters with a shoot takedown. Myles fights it but they end up in guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Myles can't keep his opponent in guard - Jutras advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Jutras is nestled in close to Myles, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Jutras is looking to take a break and control but Myles is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Myles has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Myles is trying to stand.
Jutras content to control rather than advance.

Jutras throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Jutras prevents Myles from standing back up.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Benoit Jutras overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Jutras shoots for a double leg takedown but Myles sprawls well. He's pushed Jutras's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Myles throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Jutras half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
Jutras dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Myles lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.

Jutras drives through and clinches with Myles against the cage.
Jutras goes for a takedown in the clinch but Myles prevents it.
Jutras doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Jutras lands on the inside with an uppercut.

Jutras has Myles pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Jutras pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Myles tumbling to the mat - Jutras dives into Myles's guard.
Myles wants to get back to his feet but Jutras is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Myles throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Myles drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
Myles fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Myles shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Jutras eats them both and turns towards Myles to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.
Myles digs a good body shot into Jutras's ribs.

Myles connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Jutras's hands.

Myles misses with a jab, cross combination.
Oh Jutras is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Myles throws out a loose jab but Jutras uses good head movement to avoid it.
Jutras appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Jutras throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Jutras seems to have got his legs back now.
Darren Myles seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Myles drops Jutras with a huge uppercut! Jutras drops to the floor like a sack of potatoes. Myles is raining down punches and the ref stops the fight! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:36 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Darren Myles!
Darren Myles was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed.
