The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McEnroe shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Russel eats them both and turns towards McEnroe to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.
McEnroe scores with a sloppy right hand. Russel should have avoided that one.
McEnroe shoots in but Russel avoids the takedown attempt easily.
McEnroe's jab looks to have found its range, popping Russel under the eye.
John McEnroe seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
McEnroe throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
McEnroe lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.

McEnroe has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Russel is landing a low percentage of strikes.
