Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mitt Thrawn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Athan Stamatis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Stamatis comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Lose Yourself kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Mitt Thrawn!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 56 - 27 - 0, fighting out of New York, Athan Stamatis!
The judges for this bout are Jorge Garcia, Dean Styles and Anthony Taglia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Stamatis shoots in for a takedown but Thrawn shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Stamatis moves out of range of the strikes.
Stamatis lands a really nice looking cross but Thrawn seems unphased.


It looks like Mitt Thrawn has been cut.
Stamatis throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
Thrawn misses with a hook.
Mitt Thrawn seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Thrawn ducks straight into an uppercut from Stamatis and tumbles to the canvas! It’s a flash knockdown though - Thrawn manages to regain guard straight away.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Thrawn tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Oh Thrawn is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!

Thrawn seems to have got his legs back now.
Thrawn has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Stamatis has passed into side control.
Thrawn knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Stamatis on the ground.
Stamatis lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Thrawn down.
Stamatis is chipping away with strikes.

Thrawn is looking to regain half guard here but Stamatis keeps moving and retains side control.

Thrawn on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Thrawn tries to get out of the position.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Stamatis is working for a submission of some sort.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Thrawn wants to control but Stamatis is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Stamatis performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
Thrawn wants to improve his position but Stamatis is controlling well.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Stamatis is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
Stamatis blocks the strikes from Thrawn.

Thrawn regains full guard. Nicely done.
Stamatis postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Thrawn controls Stamatis momentarily but Stamatis frees himself.
Stamatis sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Thrawn is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Stamatis scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Thrawn wants to stand up but Stamatis is controlling him.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Stamatis makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Thrawn is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Stamatis is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Thrawn wants to control the position but Stamatis says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Stamatis connects with a nice short shot to Thrawn's temple.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Stamatis closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Stamatis looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Thrawn on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Thrawn is looking for a sweep. Stamatis is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Stamatis is keen to just control but Thrawn is a slippery customer.
Thrawn is looking to improve his position.

Stamatis stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.
Thrawn stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Stamatis.
A looping hook to the body misses from Thrawn. Stamatis does a little dance to reset his feet.
Thrawn steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Stamatis. That one must have hurt.
Thrawn takes a shot right to the bread basket.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
The fighters circle momentarily. Stamatis darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Stamatis circles away from the clinch attempt.
Stamatis has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Stamatis cracks Thrawn on the jaw with a powerful right hand and Thrawn falls backwards against the cage. Stamatis follows up with more strikes that drop Thrawn to his knees. Stamatis keeps the pressure on and the referee jumps in to save Thrawn! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:47 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Athan Stamatis!
In his post fight interview, Athan Stamatis started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
