PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Total Rage (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Hammer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Total Rage!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, John Hammer!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Alan Glass and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Hammer is defended easily by Rage.
Hammer fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.

Rage closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Hammer did well to prevent Rage getting side control.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Rage is looking to take a break and control but Hammer is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Rage wants to lay and pray for a moment but Hammer keeps working.
Rage lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Rage has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Rage takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Hammer wants to control but Rage passes into side.
Hammer really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Rage. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Hammer tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Hammer struggling a bit here.
Hammer is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Rage off and has taken his back!
Hammer is not going to allow Rage to sit and survive in this position.

Rage is trying to get back to his feet but he's not managed it yet.
Rage breaks Hammer's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.

Rage avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Rage got a little sloppy there for a moment and Hammer has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Rage has managed to get both his arms back between Hammer's legs - danger averted.
Rage trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

Rage gets to his feet. Hammer looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Hammer fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Rage fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
A slapping leg kick lands for Rage.
Rage looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Hammer is fending him off so far but Rage persists. Nope, Hammer circles away and we're back to standing.
Hammer is trying hard to land a takedown here. Rage sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Total Rage has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of John Hammer.
Hammer looks winded!
Rage tries to clinch up but Hammer circles away and keeps his distance.
Hammer ducks right into an uppercut from Rage.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
A slapping leg kick lands for Rage.
Hammer checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.
Hammer has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Total Rage dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.



Rage closes the distance and clinches.

Hammer has Rage pressed against the cage, preventing Rage from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Hammer is trying to wear down his opponent with knees to the body.
Rage is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Hammer can do to turn this around?

Rage pulls guard effortlessly.
Rage looking for a sweep. Not yet Rage, not yet.
Hammer trying to control but Rage is working from the bottom.

Rage has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Hammer is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position.
Hammer landing knees to the body. They look like they could hurt.

Hammer lands with a short punch from the clinch.
A quick uppercut on the inside from Hammer.
Rage has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Hammer avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Hammer utilising his Muay Thai to score with a knee to the body.
Rage has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Hammer after a bit of a struggle.

Hammer escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Hammer avoids a punch combination nicely.
Rage darts in looking for a takedown but Hammer gets double underhooks and turns Rage into the cage.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Total Rage. That's going to take a lot out of him.

and Hammer counters into the clinch. Nicely done.

Hammer on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Rage fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Rage is looking to take this one to the mat.
Rage is trying to pull guard but Hammer has him pressed against the cage.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Hammer lands a nice looking hook to the body, against the cage.

Hammer jumps into guard, dragging Rage to the mat.
Hammer is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Hammer must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Hammer wants to control from the top but Rage keeps moving.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

John Hammer showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!


Hammer shoots in for a double leg but Rage sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Good exchange - Rage coming out on top.
Hammer has a takedown stuffed.
Rage throws a big counter combination but Hammer scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage.
Rage tries to close the distance and clinch but Hammer swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Hammer tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Hammer.
Total Rage has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of John Hammer.
Rage tries to clinch but Hammer is having none of it.
Total Rage is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Rage stuffs the takedown attempt from Hammer. Hammer gets slowly back to his feet.
Hammer takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.

Rage is looking to score with low kicks.
Rage scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.
Horrible takedown attempt by Rage or perhaps it was just good defense by Hammer, which made it look bad.
Hammer dodges the punch combination from Rage.
As Rage backs off Hammer throws a huge counter combo but Rage manages to avoid it all.

Hammer has managed to clinch.
Hammer drops down looking for an ankle pick but Rage pulls his leg out and moves away.
Rage tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Hammer will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Hammer takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Hammer avoids the head kick by Rage.
A combination from Rage does no damage.
Hammer moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.

Hammer rushes Rage and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Hammer is trying to pull guard but Rage turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.

Hammer manages to pull guard.
Rage wants to pass the guard but Hammer is keeping the position.
Rage passes Hammer's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

Rage decides to return to a standing position.

Hammer forces Rage back against the cage and clinches.
Hammer lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Rage or not.
Rage tries to score a body lock takedown but Hammer shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Hammer gets underhooks to prevent Rage's takedown attempt.
Hammer with a knee to the head.
Rage has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Hammer avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Hammer scores with a shot to the side of Rage's head.
Hammer lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.
Hammer just leaning against Rage, taking a breather.
Hammer unloads a knee to the mid-section.

Rage lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Hammer or not.
Hammer lands a body punch.
Rage is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

Hammer ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Hammer no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Rage controls from within his opponent's guard.
Hammer keeping moving, preventing Rage from controlling successfully.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to John Hammer.
I think Hammer has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
