PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Craig Roman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Hank De Boer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). De Boer has chosen Jump around as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Craig Roman!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Hank De Boer!
The judges for this bout are Albert Achterberg, Paulsen Ambrosius and Nard Betker.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

De Boer drives through with a takedown into guard.
De Boer trying to control the position from guard on top but Roman is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
De Boer is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Roman pushes De Boer off and scrambles back to his feet.
De Boer throws a left and a right that both miss

and Roman holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

De Boer breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Roman misses with a body shot.
Roman looking to land some kicks to the body here.
De Boer cracks Roman with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
De Boer tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Roman paws at him with a jab and circles away.

De Boer forces Roman back against the cage and clinches.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

De Boer breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

De Boer slaps away a takedown attempt from Roman, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Roman doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Roman shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. De Boer defends it nicely.
The fighters circle momentarily. De Boer darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
De Boer defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Roman.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Craig Roman. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Roman keeps the fight on the outside.

De Boer closes the distance and clinches.
Roman looking for a takedown.
De Boer tries a body shot but Roman blocks it.

De Boer turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and De Boer manages to end up in side control.
Roman manages to work his way to half guard, despite De Boer's best efforts.
Still in half guard, De Boer seems content to control.
De Boer with the ground and pound but Roman uses the opportunity to regain guard.
De Boer postures up in Roman's guard and throws a big left but Roman blocks it.
De Boer must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Roman has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but De Boer can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
De Boer tries to free his leg and advance position but Roman is retaining full guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Roman can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as De Boer controls the pace.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

De Boer drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Roman dives on top into guard.

Roman is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
De Boer tries to land a sweep but no joy.
De Boer controls Roman momentarily but Roman frees himself.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Roman cracks De Boer with a solid left hand.
De Boer has his hands on Roman's head, controlling the position.
Roman scoring with punches to the head and body.

De Boer has his foot on Roman's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Roman works his way back into a safe position though.
De Boer is looking to stand up but Roman isn't so interested in that idea.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if De Boer can do anything to dispel that myth.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
De Boer is controlling Roman's posture.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
De Boer falls off balance throwing a combination

and Roman holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Hank De Boer dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Hank De Boer is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
De Boer throws a head kick that half lands.
Roman circles away from the clinch attempt.
Roman is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from De Boer.
Roman fails with a takedown attempt.
Roman could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
De Boer throws a push kick but Roman slaps the foot to one side.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
De Boer scores with a crisp jab that stopped Roman in his tracks.
Roman avoids a punch combination nicely.
De Boer throws a sloppy head kick and Roman moves out of range easily.

De Boer misses with the combination.
Roman fails with a takedown attempt.
De Boer throws a body shot but no joy.
De Boer throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Roman wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch.
De Boer throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
De Boer is breathing heavily.
De Boer tries to land a body kick

and Roman counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Roman wants a takedown but no success here.

Roman jumps guard but De Boer turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Roman fails to pull guard.

De Boer breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
De Boer throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Roman's waist but Roman gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing De Boer off to one side.

De Boer shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. De Boer showed some decent athleticism there.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Roman is looking to escape.
De Boer is looking to stand up but he'll have to free his leg first. Instead, Roman manages to get to full guard.
De Boer looking to control the position here, rather than advance.

Roman has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but De Boer can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

De Boer throws a big right hand that misses.
De Boer postures up.
De Boer really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Roman. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Roman is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because De Boer is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
De Boer keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Roman's head.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Roman controls De Boer momentarily but De Boer frees himself.

Roman escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. De Boer gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

De Boer has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Roman to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! De Boer is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Roman pulls down on the head and he's put De Boer to sleep! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:43 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Craig Roman!
In defeat, Hank De Boer stepped up to the mic, saying 'I just have to train more....'.
