Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Dmitry Petrenko (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Matthew Connor (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Petrenko comes to the cage accompanied by Bro Hymm/ Pennywise. Dmitry Petrenko has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 27 - 16 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Dmitry Petrenko!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 16 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Matthew Connor!
The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Ian Loll and Steve Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Petrenko fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Connor throws a jab when Petrenko was well out of range.
Connor comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Connor works Petrenko's body with a nice hook.
Petrenko pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Connor ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Petrenko moves away.
Connor looks to score with a jab to the body but Petrenko is just out of range.
Petrenko ducks under a wild hook from Connor.
Petrenko swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.
Connor tries to bum rush Petrenko with a series of wild strikes but Petrenko uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Petrenko takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Connor smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
Connor dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Petrenko moves out of range of the strikes.
Connor looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.
Petrenko looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.

Petrenko changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Connor looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Petrenko misses with an attempted head punch from side control.
Connor wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!

Connor managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Petrenko.
Connor is trying to escape and get back to his feet.

Petrenko tries for a kimura but Connor is defending well.
Petrenko has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Petrenko cracks Connor with a big right hand but Connor just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Connor parries the strikes from Petrenko easily there. Petrenko is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Connor to escape.
Connor tries to escape but Petrenko is in control.
Petrenko throwing ground and pound but whilst doing so, he forgets to control position and Connor works his way back to half guard. Good composure under pressure.
Petrenko stops Connor from getting back to his feet.
Connor blocking the ground and pound attempt from Petrenko.
Petrenko throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Petrenko misses with a head shot. Connor uses the momentum to regain guard.
Petrenko prevents Connor from getting back to his feet.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Petrenko throwing strikes but missing.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Petrenko doesn't manage to clinch there - Connor circles away.
Connor takes a swing at Petrenko's ribcage but misses.
Connor slips a straight right by Petrenko.
Connor looks like he wants to counter punch here.
Petrenko scores with a sloppy right hand. Connor should have avoided that one.
Petrenko walks into a left hand.
Connor blocks a head kick by Petrenko.
Dmitry Petrenko seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Connor loads up on a big right hand but Petrenko slips the punch.
The crowd cheers as Connor lands an impressive looking overhand right. Petrenko doesn't seem phased though.
Connor throws a one two combo.
A nice inside leg kick there by Petrenko. That's going to slow Connor down.
Petrenko clobbers Connor with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Connor chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Petrenko can pounce on him.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Petrenko.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Some bone on bone action there as Connor checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.
Connor unleashes a big counter combination but Petrenko bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.
Connor's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Petrenko connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Connor scrambles back to his feet.


It looks like Matthew Connor has been cut.
Connor tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Petrenko was well out of range. Poor timing from Connor.
Connor throws a right hand that Petrenko ducks under and follows up with a left that Petrenko also avoids with ease.
Petrenko lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.


Connor is rocked!

Petrenko dives in and gets a big takedown. He lands in full mount and immediately unloads a series of heavy strikes! Connor has had enough and taps out.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:24 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Strikes). Dmitry Petrenko!
Dmitry Petrenko got down on his knees post fight and begged the management for a title shot. 'Please, I want that title shot so bad! Give it to me!'
