Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Dave Schultz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 4 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Dmitri Yurkov!
The judges for this bout are Roger Salmon, Paul Gruel and Jeff Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Yurkov gets underhooks to prevent Schultz's takedown attempt.
Yurkov tries to score a body lock takedown but Schultz shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Schultz prevents a body shot from Yurkov.
Yurkov is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Schultz is defending well.
Yurkov drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Schultz gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Dave Schultz has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Dmitri Yurkov.
Yurkov is looking to take this one to the mat.
Schultz misses with a knee to the head.
Schultz managing to block the knees to the body from Yurkov.
Yurkov wants a takedown but no success here.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Schultz gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Yurkov.

Schultz manages to pull guard.

Schultz escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Yurkov gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Yurkov advances position into side control!
Schultz manages to get back to half guard.
Yurkov seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Schultz does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

My spies in Warrior MMA and Fitness inform me that Yurkov has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!
Yurkov pushes down on Schultz's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Schultz slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Schultz is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Yurkov passes Schultz's left leg - he's now in half guard.

Yurkov trying to work for an americana but Schultz has managed to regain full guard.

Schultz knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Yurkov on the ground.
Yurkov stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Schultz swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Yurkov has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Schultz is proving hard to escape from.

Yurkov wants to pass the guard but Schultz is keeping the position.
Schultz keeping moving, preventing Yurkov from controlling successfully.
Yurkov wants to pass the guard but Schultz is keeping the position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Schultz goes for a double leg but Yurkov avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Yurkov continues to drive forward.

Yurkov shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Schultz's guard.
Schultz is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Yurkov stops Schultz from standing up.
Yurkov stands and throws Schultz's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Schultz can't do much from the bottom here.

Yurkov has hold of Schultz's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Schultz seems comfortable defending it but Yurkov has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Schultz is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Schultz is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Yurkov couldn't care less - he's delighted!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:42 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Dmitri Yurkov!
A relieved looking Dmitri Yurkov thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
