Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Lucas Davenport (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Koji Kanegi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Lucas Davenport!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 6 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Koji Kanegi!
The judges for this bout are Ryoma Takatsuka, Micheangelo Fripello and Paul Gruel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Davenport shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Kanegi manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Davenport postures up.
Kanegi really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Davenport. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Davenport drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Kanegi manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Davenport has Kanegi in his guard.

Davenport looking to hit a scissor sweep but Kanegi is one step ahead there.
Davenport is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Davenport is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Kanegi defends well.
Kanegi throws a strike but Davenport rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Kanegi wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Davenport is in a tricky position. We've heard reports from his gym mates at Montreal Fighter's Gym (4.5* Sparring) that he's been drilling escapes, so let's see if he can get back to his feet.
Kanegi wants to sweep here but Davenport controlling him for the moment.
Davenport distracts Kanegi with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

Davenport thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Kanegi's head.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Davenport scores with a couple of good hammerfists.

Davenport is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Kanegi is just riding it out for now. Davenport eventually gives up the hold.

Davenport is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Kanegi is doing well to control the position and prevent Davenport from advancing to side control.

Davenport looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Davenport is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!

Davenport lands a big shot there that rocks Kanegi but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Davenport pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Davenport cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

Davenport is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Kanegi can do to turn this around?

Davenport is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Davenport winds up and cracks Kanegi with a swinging punch to the side of the head.


Kanegi is rocked!

Davenport is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Davenport looking for a submission but Kanegi manages to get full guard, putting an end to that submission attempt.
Kanegi wants to sweep here but Davenport controlling him for the moment.
Kanegi throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Davenport accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Davenport is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Davenport has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
