The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Timothy Bukovac and Jack Bonds.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shirasu shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Hughes defends it nicely.
Shirasu shoots in and drives through. Hughes sprawls well.
Hughes misses with a low kick.
Hughes scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
An inside leg kick lands from Hughes.
Hughes lands with an overhand left.
It looks like Akihiro Shirasu has been cut.
Shirasu lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Hughes backs up against the cage.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hughes tries to clinch there but Shirasu circles away.
Akihiro Shirasu seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

And Shirasu tries to counter it with a takedown but Hughes pushes his down on his head and steps out.
Shirasu dives in for a single leg takedown but Hughes sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Hughes drops Shirasu with a beautiful combination! Shirasu stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Hughes is looking for the KO!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Hughes tries to close the distance and clinch up but Shirasu swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Shirasu now looks to counter with a shot at the body.
Hughes leaves Shirasu with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Shirasu uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Hughes.
Hughes fails in his attempt to clinch.
As Hughes backs off Shirasu throws a huge counter combo but Hughes manages to avoid it all.
Nice straight punches there by Hughes. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Hughes.
That has opened up Akihiro Shirasu's cut even more.
Shirasu moves into range and clinches up with Hughes.
Hughes pushes off and fires off an elbow that misses, before clinching up again, against the cage.
Shirasu is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Hughes to keep the fight standing.

Hughes lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage.

Shirasu is trying to break the clinch but Hughes has him pressed against the cage.
Good anti-grappling being displayed by Shirasu as Hughes tries to tie him up.

Shirasu has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Hughes is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Shirasu throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Shirasu takes a shot to the body in his stride.

Hughes throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.
A big right from Shirasu misses.
Hughes clinches with his opponent.
Hughes lands with a light punch inside.
The cut above Akihiro Shirasu's eye is starting to cause him problems now.
Hughes breaks the clinch.

Shirasu shoots in for a takedown but Hughes shows good takedown defense.
Shirasu moves in looking to clinch but Hughes pushes him off.

Hughes throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.

Shirasu tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Ezekiel Hughes dominated that round.
Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Akihiro Shirasu's cut is absolute horrible now. This looks like something out of a horror film with blood covering both fighters.

Ezekiel Hughes decided to hype himself up post fight. It was going well but he went on about it a bit too long and the crowd turned on him a little.
