PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Brandon Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Method Man (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jones comes into the arena with Snoop Dogg - See Ya When I Get There blaring out of the sound system. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Brandon Jones!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Method Man!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Chris Downing and Gwen Towbar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Man tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Jones swivels and escapes.
Man tries to score a power double leg takedown but Jones sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Man somewhat.

Man gets caught napping as Jones dives in and scores a takedown. Man manages to retain guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Jones slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Man is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Jones sitting in guard here, content to control.

Jones passes into half guard.
Man is trying to control but can't.
Jones takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Man is looking to escape.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Man steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Jones.
Man tries to clinch there but Jones circles away.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Man shoots for a takedown but Jones saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Brandon Jones has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Method Man.
Man looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Jones is fending him off so far but Man persists. Nope, Jones circles away and we're back to standing.

Jones is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Man has managed to free his arm - good work.

Jones is working for an americana but Man has been sneaky and has managed to get back to half guard, whilst Jones was thinking about the submission.
Man working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Jones.
Man is trying to keep Jones in close.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Man has Jones up against the cage in a clinch.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Jones jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Man walks away with a smile on his face. Jones gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Man misses with a kick to the body.

Man gets caught flat footed, as Jones shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Man looking for a sweep. Not yet Man, not yet.
Man working a defensive guard but Jones passes into half guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Jones working Man over with strikes.
Man wants to improve his position but Jones is controlling well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Brandon Jones dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


The fight stays on the outside here - Man looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Jones doesn't manage to clinch there - Man circles away.

Man clinches up with Jones and pushes him back against the cage.

Jones's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Jones shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Man's guard.
Jones tries to free his leg and advance position but Man is retaining full guard.

Man has an active guard here but Jones has managed to pass into half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Man has his hands clasped together around Jones's back. He's all about the action.

Jones stalling.
Jones has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Jones is trying to control. Man wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Man is defending against the submission attempts here by Jones.
Still in half guard, Jones seems content to control.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Man moves in looking to clinch but Jones pushes him off.
Jones drops down looking for a counter takedown but Man sprawls and moves away.

Jones feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Jones tries to free his leg and advance position but Man is retaining full guard.
Jones postures up.

Man working a defensive guard but Jones manages to pass into side control anyway.
Man is trying to control Jones's posture but Jones avoids it.
Man might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Jones haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Man trying to remain calm as Jones controls from the top position.
Man wants to control but Jones postures up.
Man throws a couple of strikes even though he's not really in a good position to do so.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Jones rushes Man and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Jones's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Jones shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Jones showed some decent athleticism there.
Jones prevents Man from improving his position.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
It looks like Jones is going to stand back up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!



Jones clinches up with Man and pushes him back against the cage.

Man breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Brandon Jones is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Jones scores with a takedown into Man's guard.
Man trying to control the position.
Jones lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Jones is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Man can do to turn this around?

Jones tries to stand but Man is controlling from the bottom.

Man will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Man is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Man swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
It looked like Jones wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
Man scores with a one two! Jones had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
Man shoots in for a takedown but Jones shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Jones looked to counter with a high kick but didn't commit.
Man takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Man tries to clinch up.
Man misses with a head kick.
Jones throws a big counter combination but Man scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage.
Man shoots in for a double leg but Jones sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Brandon Jones has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Method Man.
Man tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Jones jinks towards his opponent looking like he wants to counter with a mid kick but doesn't commit.
Jones throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Man doesn't manage to clinch there - Jones circles away.
Some wild striking there from Jones.

Man misses with a takedown attempt - Jones sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Man slips a jab and a cross from Jones.
Jones stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Jones wants it to stay on the feet.
Man is looking to clinch but Jones is avoiding it.
Man tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
A head kick misses from Jones.
Jones throws a sloppy head kick and Man moves out of range easily.
Man wants to counter the offense by Jones and move into the clinch position.
Jones throws a combination. Man tries to block but a couple of punches get through.
Method Man seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Jones misses with a head kick.

Man shoots in looking for a takedown but Jones manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Man's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
As Man looks to move away, Jones throws a big counter combo bu Man just gets out of the way.
Good work by Man as he checks the leg kick.
Jones sets himself, and Man steps forward looking for the clinch! Jones avoids it this time.

Jones pushes Man up against the cage in a clinch.

Man escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Jones closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Man quickly recovers to half guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Man trying to hold on to Jones's head to control him but Jones postures up.

Man is defending against the submission attempts here by Jones.
Method Man has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Jones is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

And that's the end of the fight!
Brandon Jones showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Jones has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
