PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Chris Jericho (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Garrett Lapp (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jericho comes to the cage accompanied by break the walls down. Garrett Lapp is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Chris Jericho!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Garrett Lapp!
The judges for this bout are Arvi Lind, Marco Blurström and Ben Zyskovitsi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jericho swats away the attempt to clinch by Lapp.

Lapp decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Jericho tries to roll over but Lapp keeps him under control.

Jericho looking for subs from the bottom but Lapp mounts him!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Lapp looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.

Lapp is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Lapp has control of Jericho's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Jericho regains control of the situation pretty easily.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Lapp jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Jericho manages to avoid the submission attempt.
Jericho is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Lapp off and has taken his back!

Lapp is covering up but some of the strikes from Jericho are getting through and doing damage.

Lapp is staying cool under pressure, defending well against the rear naked choke attempt from his opponent.

The referee is taking a good look at Lapp as he is on the wrong end of some big shots from Jericho!

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Jericho wants to improve his position but instead Lapp has moved into half guard.
Lapp is looking to take a break and control but Jericho is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Lapp working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Jericho is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Lapp pulls his head out easily.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Lapp working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Jericho throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.

Jericho working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Lapp doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Lapp manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Jericho throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Lapp escapes and throws Jericho's legs to the side, diving into side control!
Lapp slips into full mount, dodging the strikes by Jericho.

Jericho has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

The referee warns Jericho that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Lapp landing strikes from the mount.
Jericho throwing hammer fists to the chest of Lapp. What's that going to do exactly?
BOOM! Lapp connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Lapp lands a heavy elbow.
Chris Jericho overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Jericho regains half guard.
Jericho gets full guard.
Jericho manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Lapp manages to get himself to full guard.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Garrett Lapp showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Jericho misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Jericho tries for a takedown but Lapp circles away easily

and Lapp counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Lapp.
Lapp chips away with some ground and pound.
Jericho controls Lapp momentarily but Lapp frees himself.
Jericho looking to hit a scissor sweep but Lapp is one step ahead there.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Jericho has momentary wrist control but Lapp slips an elbow through the middle.
Lapp tries to stand but Jericho is controlling from the bottom.
Jericho looking for a sweep. Not yet Jericho, not yet.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
No luck for Lapp with that takedown attempt.
Lapp tries to clinch up.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Lapp avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Chris Jericho is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

and Lapp counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Jericho is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Lapp's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Lapp's back!

Lapp is trying to get back to his feet but Jericho has full control of the position and if anything, Lapp has just worked his way into a worse spot.

Jericho has his opponent trapped and is landing shots. Not a good position for Lapp.

Lapp turns into Jericho and is now in his guard.
Jericho is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Jericho will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
Lapp lands a couple of elbows.
Lapp with a flurry of punches that miss.

Jericho has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Lapp can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Jericho regains full guard. Nicely done.
Jericho wants to hit a switch here but Lapp passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Jericho there!
Jericho is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Jericho is looking to get to half guard.
Jericho might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Garrett Lapp comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Lapp has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
