PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Dewey Cooper (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Merp Terp (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The key to victory for Dewey Cooper has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Dewey Cooper!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Merp Terp!
The judges for this bout are Josh West, Micheangelo Fripello and Roger Salmon.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cooper lands with a cross.
Terp ducks under a wild hook from Cooper.
Terp tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.

Terp throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Cooper was covering up waiting for the punch and Terp finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Terp trying to control the position from guard on top but Cooper is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Cooper is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Cooper avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Terp throws a big elbow that misses.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Terp pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Cooper is keeping the position for now.
Terp makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Terp passes Cooper's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Terp controlling the pace.
Terp sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Cooper defending well though.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Terp looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Cooper throws the kick towards the body but Terp avoids it.
Terp is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.
Terp keeps the fight on the outside.
Terp changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
Cooper seems to be moving with more speed, compared to his last bout. He must have been working on that in the gym.
Cooper throws a series of strikes that have Terp backpedaling.
Cooper fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Terp is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.

Terp slips nicely into half guard.
Cooper is refusing to be controlled, as Terp sits in half guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Terp thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Cooper's head.
Terp missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Cooper is refusing to be controlled, as Terp sits in half guard.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Cooper misses with a two punch combination.
Terp tries to close the distance and clinch but Cooper swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Terp tries to clinch but Cooper moves out of range.

Terp feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Terp throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Terp slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Cooper wants to stand but Terp is controlling the position.
Cooper keeping full guard, as Terp tries to pass.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Terp trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Merp Terp dominated that round.
That's time! Cooper's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


No joy there for Cooper, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Cooper throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Terp.
Terp with the counter takedown but Cooper avoids it easily.

Terp drives through with a takedown into guard.
Terp in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Cooper is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Terp is controlling him.
Terp is looking to work some ground and pound but Cooper has wrist control.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Terp accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Cooper lands a leg kick that knocks Terp off balance momentarily.
Dewey Cooper seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Terp changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.

Cooper tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Cooper swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Cooper throws a jab but it's blocked by Terp.
Terp changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.

Terp throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Cooper tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Terp is in Cooper's guard.

Terp stands up over Cooper, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Cooper knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Terp on the ground.

Terp seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Cooper closes the distance but Terp moves to the side

and Terp counters with a nice double leg into guard.

Terp stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Cooper swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Merp Terp showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.



Cooper gets caught flat footed, as Terp shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Terp throws an elbow that misses. Cooper uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Terp's guard. Nice move by Cooper!

Terp has a closed guard, preventing Cooper from standing up.

Terp has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Cooper can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Terp looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Cooper passes into half guard.

Terp is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Terp is pressing down on Cooper's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Terp bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Cooper's guard.

Terp stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Cooper swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Cooper rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Terp moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Dewey Cooper has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Cooper tries to bum rush Terp with a series of wild strikes but Terp uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Dewey Cooper is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
