Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Rudy Pu (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Yokozuna Asashoryu (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Yokozuna Asashoryu will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Rudy Pu!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 6 - 0, fighting out of New York, Yokozuna Asashoryu!
The judges for this bout are John Kavanagh, Joseph Jones and Russell Pearce.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pu looks to land a right hand but Asashoryu moved out of range.
And Asashoryu responds with a good body kick, but Pu manages to step out the way in time.
Asashoryu moves out of range as Pu strikes.
Asashoryu throws out a counter right but Pu avoids it with no problem.
Asashoryu throws a sloppy head kick and Pu moves out of range easily.
Pu blocks a jab.
Pu fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Asashoryu manages to avoid it.

Pu takes the fight into the clinch.
Come on Pu - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.
Pu lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Pu struggles to land a body shot inside as Asashoryu controls his hands.

Asashoryu breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Asashoryu throws a sloppy head kick and Pu moves out of range easily.
Pu throws a jab but it's blocked by Asashoryu.
Asashoryu looks like he wanted to counter with a high kick but didn't throw it.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Pu throws out a loose jab but Asashoryu uses good head movement to avoid it.
Pu lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Asashoryu is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.


It looks like Rudy Pu has been cut.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Pu lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Asashoryu has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Asashoryu and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.
Asashoryu throws a series of punches but Pu moves out of range.
Pu misses with a few strikes there.
Pu connects with a good right hand that stumbles Asashoryu. Asashoryu circles away out of range and recomposes himself.

Oooh a lovely combination from Pu sends Asashoryu down but not out. Pu dives into side control looking to finish.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Pu taking a breather here.
Asashoryu is trying to improve his position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
I wouldn't like to be where Asashoryu is right now.
Pu wants to control but Asashoryu is keeping him busy.
We've been hearing good reports from Pu's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
Asashoryu keeps Pu under control for a moment.
Pu is looking to take a break and control but Asashoryu is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Asashoryu is looking for a sweep.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Asashoryu is not content to let Pu control the position.
Asashoryu pushes Pu away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Pu gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Pu lands with a good body shot.
Asashoryu throws a head kick that misses.
Rudy Pu seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Asashoryu lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
Asashoryu on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
Pu swings and misses with a hook to the body.
A jab from Asashoryu misses.
Pu tried to score with a low kick but Asashoryu checks it.
Asashoryu is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Asashoryu gets cracked there but stands up to it.


Asashoryu is rocked!
Asashoryu misses the body punch
and Pu rattles Asashoryu with a well-timed uppercut counter. - Asashoryu tries to back away and recover but his hands are down low and he gets tagged again, sending him stumbling down to the canvas. Pu dives in after him and quickly finishes the job with a trio of brutal punches, leaving Asashoryu stiff and motionless on the mat!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:18 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Rudy Pu!
Rudy Pu very nearly forgot to thank Soul Supremacy Nutrition (90% laundry) amongst all the excitement of his win but just as the interview came to a close, he screamed their name. Hopefully he'll get a few nice freebies in the mail as a thank you.
