PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Krste Kocev (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joe Gordan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Krste Kocev!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Joe Gordan!
The judges for this bout are David Hoff, Peter Branson and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Gordan pushes Kocev up against the cage in a clinch.
Knees to the body from Kocev.
Gordan tries a body shot but Kocev blocks it.
Kocev is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Gordan is defending well.
Gordan is pressed up against the cage. Kocev has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Gordan down to the mat. Gordan avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Kocev pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Kocev scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Gordan tries to roll over but Kocev keeps him under control.
Gordan keeping hold of Kocev's head, controlling as best he can.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gordan manages to get to full guard.
Gordan controlling the position.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Gordan is looking for a triangle but Kocev pushes his legs off easily.
Kocev stopping the sweep attempt from Gordan.

Kocev looking to sit in guard and control but Gordan gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Gordan seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Gordan works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Gordan is figuring out what he wants to do next.

Gordan is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Gordan looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Gordan passes to full mount!
Kocev manages to regain half guard. Good work.
Gordan performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Gordan is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Gordan uses his free foot to push down on Kocev's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Kocev.

Gordan looking to control and managing it successfully.
It looks like Gordan might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Gordan lands a heavy elbow.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Joe Gordan dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Kocev throws a sloppy head kick

and Gordan counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Kocev trying to keep a closed guard but Gordan is proving a slippery customer.
Gordan slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Gordan has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Still in half guard, Gordan seems content to control.
Gordan working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Kocev trying to hold on to Gordan's head to control him but Gordan postures up.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Gordan in particular looking to stall.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Gordan is looking for a kimura but Kocev is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Gordan to get the leverage.

Gordan's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Kocev tries to roll over but Gordan keeps him under control.
Gordan lands strikes from half guard.
Kocev knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Gordan on the ground.
Gordan is figuring out what he wants to do next.

Gordan is working for a submission of some sort.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Gordan passes to side control.
Kocev taking a bit of punishment here - Gordan scoring with strikes.
A lull in the action here.
Gordan lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Kocev down.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Gordan advances to mount.
Gordan controlling the position easily from mount.

Gordan looking to secure an arm triangle but Kocev defends it well.
Gordan controlling his opponent.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Joe Gordan showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


Kocev moves out of range as Gordan throws a body kick.
Kocev half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
Kocev shoots in but no luck this time.
Kocev dives in and grabs Gordan's left leg, looking for a takedown. Gordan pushes down on Kocev's head and hops out.
Kocev goes for a double leg but Gordan avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Gordan continues to drive forward.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Krste Kocev. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Kocev feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Gordan's calf.
Kocev pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Kocev fails with the takedown.

Gordan scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Gordan is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Kocev knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Gordan passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Kocev!
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Kocev has given up his back here. Will Gordan look for the submission or keep pounding away?

Gordan working for a choke but Kocev reverses nicely into Gordan 's guard.

Gordan is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Kocev is aware though and is defending well.
Gordan has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Kocev loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Gordan has Kocev pulled in close to control his posture.
Kocev trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Gordan is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Kocev is controlling him.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Gordan throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
Gordan has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Gordan is continuing to stall.
Kocev wants to control from the top but Gordan keeps moving.
Gordan is pulling down on Kocev's head. It's preventing any offense from Kocev, at least for the moment.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Gordan throws some sloppy strikes off his back.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Gordan swats away the attempt to clinch by Kocev.
Kocev tries to clinch there but Gordan circles away.
Gordan tries to counter by closing the distance.
Kocev throws a nice head kick!

Gordan is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Kocev's half guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Gordan landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.

And that's the end of the fight!
Joe Gordan comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Gordan winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
