PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Ren Grusen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Pat Sharp (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sharp has chosen Funhouse as his entrance music. The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Grusen has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Sharp finds it's way round the side to connect with Grusen's head.
Grusen dives in for a single leg takedown but Sharp sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Sharp throws a shot from downtown. Grusen moves away and avoids it.
Grusen shoots in but no luck this time.
Sharp misses with an uppercut.

We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Grusen postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Sharp is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Grusen, into his guard.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Grusen goes for a double leg but Sharp avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Sharp continues to drive forward.

Sharp throws out a loose jab but Grusen uses good head movement to avoid it.
Grusen looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.

Grusen takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Sharp tries to clinch there but Grusen circles away.

Nice uppercut lands for Sharp. That snapped Grusen's head back.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Sharp is looking to take a break and control but Grusen is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Grusen walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Sharp waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Grusen.
Pat Sharp seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Grusen tries to score a power double leg takedown but Sharp sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Grusen somewhat.
Sharp throws a push kick but Grusen slaps the foot to one side.

It seemed like Sharp was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.

Sharp must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Sharp has been looking to improve his clinch game in recent weeks. Grusen seems to have the measure of him in the clinch so far, so let's see if Sharp can turn it around.
