PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Santos Mayer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jay Kulina (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jay Kulina will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Santos Mayer!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jay Kulina!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Frank Antenori and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kulina throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Mayer moves into the clinch successfully.

Kulina tightens his grip and picks Mayer up, before dumping him to the ground. Mayer manages to land in guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Kulina is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Mayer is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Mayer has escaped and now he's on top!

Kulina is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Mayer takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

Kulina wants to hold on but Mayer pushes him away.
Mayer has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Mayer lands a big shot there that rocks Kulina but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.

Mayer will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Mayer looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Kulina is looking to control Mayer's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Kulina avoid being mounted?

Kulina makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Kulina.
Mayer throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.

Kulina isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Mayer stacks Kulina on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Mayer!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Santos Mayer dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Mayer gets caught napping as Kulina dives in and scores a takedown. Mayer manages to retain guard.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Kulina wants to get back to full guard.
Mayer thows a huge punch but Kulina dodges it nicely.
Mayer is nestled in close to Kulina, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Mayer is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Kulina is just riding it out for now. Mayer eventually gives up the hold.

Kulina is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Mayer scores with a couple of nice shots.

Mayer thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Kulina's head.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Mayer lands a nice short elbow.
Kulina tries to get to full guard but Mayer has control of the leg.
Kulina is trying to stand back up but Mayer is controlling him
Mayer winds up and cracks Kulina with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

Mayer seems like he's working for an arm triangle here. He's freed his trapped foot and he's rotating nicely. Kulina is in big trouble! He's tapping out! This one is aaaaaaaaaaaall over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:59 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Santos Mayer!
