PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Kublai Khan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Budak Poyo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The key to victory for Kublai Khan has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Kublai Khan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Budak Poyo!
The judges for this bout are Bart Greer, Michael Johnstone and Santiago Holmes.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Poyo doesn't manage to clinch there - Khan circles away.
Khan closes the distance and lands a one-two.
Khan moves into range and connects with a jab.
Kublai Khan seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Khan throws a body shot but no joy.
Khan catches Poyo with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
Khan has been working on his boxing with his coaches at Fitness elite 24/7 in the buildup to the fight.
Khan throws a nice inside leg kick.
Poyo uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Khan.
A nice leg kick lands there from Khan.
Poyo staying out of range there.
Khan bobs and weaves and then throws a good body kick.
A slapping leg kick lands for Khan.
Khan stuffs the takedown.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Poyo tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Khan paws at him with a jab and circles away.
A solid leg kick lands there for Khan.
Good leg kick by Khan there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.

Poyo jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Khan throws a shot to the body.
Khan bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Khan feints and then cracks Poyo's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Poyo down.
Khan turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
A thudding body kick lands there by Khan!
A big right from Khan misses.
Poyo bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Poyo with the counter takedown but Khan avoids it easily.
Khan lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.

Khan rushes Poyo and presses him up against the cage.
Khan throws a knee to the head but misses.
Khan tries a knee to the head but Poyo blocks it.

Poyo breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Khan displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Poyo.
Khan throws a quick counter kick to the body but Poyo avoids it.

Poyo fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Kublai Khan has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Budak Poyo.
A jab from Khan does it's job there.
Khan getting the better of the striking in that exchange.
Khan comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Khan lands with a cross.
Poyo on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.

Poyo closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Khan to the mat! Khan manages to get full guard.
Khan might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Khan is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Poyo working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Khan's head.

Poyo lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.

Khan wants to sweep here but Poyo controlling him for the moment.

Poyo drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Poyo jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Poyo has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Khan lets loose with a powerful body kick. Poyo will feel that in the morning.

Khan cracks Poyo with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.

Poyo drives through with a takedown into guard.
Poyo lands a couple of decent looking shots.

Khan is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Poyo drops back looking for a leg! Khan is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Khan manages to kick Poyo off! Poyo jumps back into Khan's guard.
Khan tries to land a sweep but no joy.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Poyo lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.

Khan is working hard here to advance position.
Poyo lands a couple of elbows.
Poyo trying to control the position from guard on top but Khan is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Khan wants to sweep but no luck.
Khan is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Poyo can do to turn this around?
Khan doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Khan lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Khan has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Poyo will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
Khan wants to control from the top but Poyo keeps moving.

Poyo has control of Khan's left arm, preventing Khan from doing any damage.

Khan is fighting to break Poyo's control of his arms but Poyo is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Let's hope that Poyo has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Budak Poyo has got the better of the ground game so far.
Poyo controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Poyo advances to half guard.
Poyo winds up and cracks Khan with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Khan is looking to control Poyo's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Khan avoid being mounted?

Poyo is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Khan doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Poyo.

Budak Poyo showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Poyo misses with a takedown attempt - Khan sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Poyo's leg has a nasty welt from taking a succession of leg kicks. That must be slowing him down.
Khan misses with a body kick.
Khan throws a nice head kick!
Poyo wants to clinch.
Poyo throws a solid leg kick but Khan takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Poyo.
Khan cracks Poyo with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Khan jabbing away but nothing is landing.

Poyo takes a knee right on the jaw!

Poyo lands a shoulder strike.
Khan throws an elbow that misses.
Khan lands an elbow inside.
Khan is trying to maintain a safe position but Poyo gets an underhook and turns Khan into the cage.
Khan scores a nice knee to the body.

Poyo has clasped his hands together around Khan's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
Khan is trying to control Poyo's posture but Poyo avoids it.
Poyo lands a few punches from side control.
Khan tries to buck Poyo off but Poyo is having none of it.
Poyo moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Poyo creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.
Khan gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Khan wants to improve his position but Poyo is controlling well.
Poyo lands with a punch from half guard.
Khan wants to get back to full guard.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Khan tries to roll over but Poyo keeps him under control.
Well, if Poyo is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Poyo is trying to control the action in half guard but Khan is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Poyo lands a nice short elbow.

Khan is trying to escape and get back to his feet.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Poyo tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Khan is trying to improve his position.

I would just about give that final round to Budak Poyo.
I think Poyo has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
