PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Kron Fraley (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gabe Zagarno (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The key to victory for Kron Fraley has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kron Fraley !
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Gabe Zagarno!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Frank Dennis and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Fraley tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target.

Fraley gets tackled into the cage by Zagarno. Zagarno maintains the clinch.

Fraley jumps guard.
Zagarno wants to pass the guard but Fraley is keeping the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Zagarno trying to control the position from guard on top but Fraley is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Zagarno won't allow Fraley to sweep him here.
Zagarno wanted to stand there but Fraley had control of the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Fraley is looking to reverse the position.
Fraley is not content to let Zagarno control the position.

Zagarno is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Fraley knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Zagarno is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.

Zagarno tries to advance position but instead Fraley slips a leg back in to half guard.
Zagarno is looking to take a break and control but Fraley is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Zagarno wants to pass the guard but Fraley is defending well.
Fraley tries to get to full guard but Zagarno has control of the leg.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Zagarno gets a double leg takedown into Fraley 's guard.
Fraley bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Zagarno's guard.

Zagarno controls Fraley momentarily but Fraley frees himself.

Zagarno is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Fraley defends well.
Zagarno wants to sweep here but Fraley controlling him for the moment.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Fraley controlling from the top position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Zagarno tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
Zagarno misses with a body kick.
Fraley is looking to clinch.
Fraley has a takedown stuffed.
Zagarno has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Zagarno stuffs the takedown.

Zagarno shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

My spies in Nonprofit Vegas Elite $50 ($1000 value) inform me that Zagarno has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!

Fraley shoots in for a takedown but Zagarno shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Zagarno tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Fraley manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Fraley keeps the fight on the outside.

Fraley manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Zagarno on his heels. He'll look to pass Zagarno's guard now, I'm sure.

Zagarno lands one or two decent shots to the body here. Although from his own half guard, he's not going to be causing too much damage.
Zagarno is looking for a sweep. Fraley is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Zagarno wants to control but Fraley is keeping busy.
Zagarno tries to get to full guard but Fraley has control of the leg.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

Fraley throws a big elbow that misses, also allowing Zagarno to regain full guard.
Zagarno managing to control the position.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Zagarno can do anything to dispel that myth.
Zagarno avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Fraley gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Fraley will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

Fraley working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Zagarno doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Zagarno manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Gabe Zagarno showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Fraley 's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Zagarno would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Zagarno's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Zagarno landing with the ground and pound.

Zagarno is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Zagarno stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Zagarno wants it to stay on the feet.
Zagarno tries to clinch there but Fraley circles away.
Zagarno throws a sloppy head kick and Fraley moves out of range easily.
Zagarno is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Fraley .
Horrible takedown attempt by Fraley or perhaps it was just good defense by Zagarno, which made it look bad.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Zagarno fails with an attempt to clinch.
Fraley rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Zagarno moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Zagarno closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Zagarno lands in his opponent's guard.

Fraley looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Zagarno postures up and lands a big shot to Fraley 's brow.

Zagarno seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Gabe Zagarno comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Zagarno has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
