PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Ricky Krahe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lucas Soares (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Ricky Krahe!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Lucas Soares!
The judges for this bout are Thiago Cunha, Leandro Rodrigues and Alexandre Firmino.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Krahe slips under a jab.
Soares dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Krahe ducks under a wild hook from Soares.
Krahe fires out a quick counter leg kick but Soares just manages to avoid it.
Soares cracks Krahe with a good jab.
Krahe is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Krahe moves out of range of the strikes.
Soares fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.

Krahe shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Krahe will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Krahe prevents Soares from standing back up.
Krahe thows a huge punch but Soares dodges it nicely.
Krahe missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Krahe seems to be looking for submissions.
Krahe really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Krahe seems to be working for a kimura but Soares defends the submission attempt.
Krahe prevents Soares from standing back up.

Soares is defending against the submission attempts here by Krahe.

Krahe looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Soares is trying to stand.

Krahe is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Soares wants to get back to his feet.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Soares is defending against the submission attempts here by Krahe.
Soares is looking to escape.

Krahe is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Soares is just riding it out for now. Krahe eventually gives up the hold.
Krahe prevents Soares from standing back up.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

Krahe is working for a kimura but Soares is defending it quite comfortably.
Krahe thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Soares's head.

Krahe is looking for a kimura here.
Soares blocking the ground and pound attempt from Krahe.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Soares pushes Krahe off looking to stand but Krahe dives back in and keeps control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Krahe is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Soares has managed to free his arm - good work.

Krahe is looking for a kimura but Soares is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Krahe to get the leverage.
Krahe stops Soares from getting back to his feet.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Soares can do anything to dispel that myth.

Krahe is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Soares tries to kick Krahe off but Krahe keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Soares is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.

Krahe is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Soares really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Krahe. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Soares tries to kick Krahe off but Krahe keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Soares misses with a straight left.
Krahe keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Soares.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Soares stuffs the takedown.
Horrible takedown attempt by Krahe or perhaps it was just good defense by Soares, which made it look bad.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ricky Krahe dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Soares digs a good body shot into Krahe's ribs.
Nice sprawl there from Soares as Krahe shoots in.
Soares misses with a straight right.
Soares connects with a jab.
A telegraphed right hand from Soares misses the target.
Krahe looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Soares throws a lazy right hand but Krahe sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
As Soares looks to move away, Krahe throws a big counter combo bu Soares just gets out of the way.
Soares looks to land a left hand but Krahe moved out of range nicely.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Soares misses the shot to the body.
Soares throws the left hand but Krahe avoids the punch easily.
Krahe is looking to counter with a shot to the body.
Soares throws a hook but Krahe avoids it easily.
Krahe displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Soares throws out the jab.
Krahe is looking for a counter combo.

Soares throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Krahe counters with a three punch combo that has Soares backing up. Soares nods at Krahe to acknowledge the strikes.
Krahe fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Soares avoids it really well and circles away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ricky Krahe. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Soares scores with a decent looking hook.
Soares lands a really nice looking cross but Krahe seems unphased.
Soares lands with an overhand left.
Lucas Soares is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Soares lands a slapping body shot.
Soares throws a jab but it's blocked by Krahe.
Krahe takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Lucas Soares seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Soares throws a shot from downtown. Krahe moves away and avoids it.
Soares has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Krahe doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Soares cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

Krahe bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Soares is pushing Krahe's head away, looking to escape. Krahe manages to hold on to the position though.

Krahe thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Soares is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.

Krahe in side control, working for a kimura. He's got hold of an arm and he's torquing it... Soares is tapping! That's the end of the fight!
