PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Matt Johnson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ichnig Reedin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Matt Johnson has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Matt Johnson seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Matt Johnson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Ichnig Reedin!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, William Peck and Dillan Fox.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Johnson tries to close the distance and clinch up but Reedin swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Reedin scores with a jab. Johnson acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
A jab from Johnson misses.
Reedin throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Johnson's waist but Johnson gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Reedin off to one side.
Johnson wants to clinch.
Johnson has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Johnson there as he acknowledges the shot.
Reedin shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Johnson as he avoids it easily.
Johnson is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Reedin.
Johnson tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Reedin paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Reedin stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Johnson.
Reedin shoots in looking for a takedown. Johnson tries to sprawl out of it but Reedin keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Johnson manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Matt Johnson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ichnig Reedin.
Johnson swings for the body but Reedin moves out of range.
Johnson avoids a kick to the body.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Reedin throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

Reedin feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Reedin prevents Johnson from getting back to his feet.

Reedin has gone for a leg lock! Johnson slips out almost immediately though and dives into Reedin's guard.
Reedin looks gassed!
Johnson slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Johnson's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Johnson controls from within his opponent's guard.

Reedin looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Johnson slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Johnson wants to pass the guard but Reedin is keeping the position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Reedin wants to sweep but no luck.

Reedin throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Johnson escapes and throws Reedin's legs to the side, diving into side control!
Reedin struggling a bit here.
Reedin striking from the bottom but nothing landed.
Johnson just content to control the position.
A control attempt from Reedin but he's now mounted!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Reedin tries to hold on but Johnson postures up.
Reedin is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Johnson controlling the position easily from mount.
Johnson knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Reedin on the ground.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Matt Johnson dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Reedin takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Reedin pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Reedin looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Johnson is fending him off so far but Reedin persists. Nope, Johnson circles away and we're back to standing.
Reedin with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Johnson to score with a decent uppercut.
Johnson tries to close the distance and clinch up but Reedin swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Johnson throws a right and a left that Reedin avoids nicely.
Johnson throws out a leg kick but Reedin moves out of range and Johnson only half commits.
Reedin fails to land the takedown.
Johnson tries to clinch up but Reedin circles away and keeps his distance.
Johnson swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and Reedin decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Johnson's guard.
Reedin stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Johnson swivels though and keeps the full guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Reedin drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Johnson dives on top into guard.
Reedin is breathing heavily.

Reedin has his foot on Johnson's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Johnson works his way back into a safe position though.
Reedin wants to sweep but no luck.

Reedin isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Johnson stacks Reedin on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Johnson!

Reedin keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Johnson controlling the pace for now.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Reedin regains half guard.
Reedin tries to get to full guard but Johnson has control of the leg.
Reedin flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
Reedin is trying to control but Johnson passes into side control!
Reedin tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Johnson wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Matt Johnson will probably get the nod.
That's time! Johnson's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!


Johnson throws a sloppy head kick and Reedin moves out of range easily.

enabling Reedin to counter with a crisp jab.

Johnson throws out a loose jab but Reedin uses good head movement to avoid it.

and Reedin counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Johnson!
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Reedin cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Reedin thowing shots but they're missing.
Reedin fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Reedin wants to control the pace but Johnson is squirming around nicely.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Johnson tries to hold on but Reedin pushes him away.

Reedin goes for an armbar but Johnson turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Johnson.
Johnson tries to stand but Reedin is controlling from the bottom.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Reedin rolls, trying to escape but Johnson keeps control of the position.
Reedin manages to reverse the position and now he's in Johnson's guard. Nice work there by Reedin.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Reedin loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Reedin stops Johnson from standing up.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Reedin stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Johnson swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Johnson tries to clinch
enabling Reedin to counter with a crisp jab.
Reedin checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.
Johnson slips a jab and a cross from Reedin.
A shot to the body from Johnson misses
letting Reedin counter with a right hand.
Reedin is looking to clinch.
Johnson pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Reedin comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Reedin connects with a solid leg kick.
Johnson tries to clinch but fails miserably

and Reedin holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Reedin is pushing Johnson up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
Reedin is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.
Ichnig Reedin has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Reedin can't break the clinch.
Johnson crunches a lovely knee into Reedin's ribcage.

Reedin escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Johnson thows a body shot but no joy.
Good leg kick by Reedin there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Johnson lands with a nice combination. Reedin backs away looking to recover.

Reedin scores a takedown into full mount!
Reedin looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.

And that's the end of the fight!
Ichnig Reedin comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Johnson has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
