The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Yury throws a head kick that misses.

As Yury looks to move away, Mathews throws a big counter combo bu Yury just gets out of the way.
A head kick misses from Yury.

Yury takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Mathews lands a right hook to the body.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Mathews tries for a takedown but Yury sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Mathews wants to lay and pray for a moment but Yury keeps working.

Mathews tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Mathews has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Yury is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Mathews has just dragged him back down to the mat.

Mathews throws a strike aimed at the side of Yury's head but Yury avoids it well.
Mathews will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Mathews has hold of Yury's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Yury tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Mathews cranks the arm and Yury screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Yury, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.
