PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Tommy Hughes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mario Front (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Tommy Hughes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mario Front!
The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Gwen Towbar and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Front gets a double leg takedown into Hughes's guard.
Front is looking to stand up but Hughes won't let him.
Hughes is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Hughes had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Front defends it easily.

Hughes throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Front escapes and throws Hughes's legs to the side, diving into side control!
Hughes isn't going anywhere.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Front in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
Hughes is trying to get back to his feet.
Hughes takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Front is putting a hurting on Hughes here, landing some big shots from side control.
Hughes struggling a bit here.
Hughes is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control.
Front tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.
Hughes wants to control but Front postures up.
Front cracks Hughes with a big elbow.

Front decides to stand back up.

Front closes the distance and clinches.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Front manages to break the clinch.

Hughes gets tackled into the cage by Front. Front maintains the clinch.

Front escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Front closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Front decides to stand up.
Front lands with a thumping leg kick.

Front bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Hughes wants to get back to his feet.
Front trying to control the position but Hughes is working away.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Hughes tries to improve position but can't.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Front fails to land a wild elbow strike.
Front wants to stand but Hughes has his arm trapped.
Hughes regains half guard.

Front looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Front looks winded!
Front is looking to take a break and control but Hughes is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Front tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Hughes.
Front not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Hughes really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Front wants to stand up but Hughes has a hold of him and won't allow it.
Hughes is on the bottom, trying to hold on to half guard. He's throwing a few small shots here, to keep his opponent honest.
Front has decided to stand back up but his arm is trapped. Whilst he's worrying about his arm, Hughes works to full guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Hughes manages to escape and get back to his feet.

Front darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mario Front dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Front throws out a leg kick but Hughes moves out of range and Front only half commits.
Front has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Front gets a clinch.

Hughes jumps guard and drags Front to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Front has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Hughes is proving hard to escape from.
Front must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Hughes looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Front is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Hughes has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Front is looking to defend but Hughes has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Front! Hughes pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Front taps out and this one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:47 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Tommy Hughes!
